Does James Toney now have a legitimate claim to the GREATEST CHIN in boxing history?

  1. Not totally as stupid as when i first read thread title, but for me - Oli McCall - I doubt he can be hurt at times - like one of those guys who legitimately can't feel pain.

Definitely Toney fought with the greater natural size disparity. The reason I'd give the nod to Chuvalo is because Toney unfortunately shows the damage in his speech. George is still articulate which indicates greater durability.

    That's highly bogus criteria.

Hagler taking Thomas Hearns punch and wobbling but staying up and then taking Mugabi's uppercut a year later and not swaying was pretty incredible.

That really doesn't mean anything at all. If anything, that would suggest that Chuvalo was a better defensive fighter and didn't get hit as much as Toney, and therefore suffered less damage. But I don't think you'll get too many people arguing that Chuvalo was a better defensive fighter than Lights Out.

Terry Norris- weak chin, slurs his words.
Thomas Hearns- average/shaky chin, slurs his words.
    Muhammad Ali- great chin, Parkinson's.
Riddick Bowe- good chin, slurs his words.
Jake LaMotta- great chin, still sharp and speaks more clearly than most people his age (or even younger), most of whom didn't get punched in the head countless times.

It's all over the place, and often difficult to gauge who will suffer more serious neurological problems than others.

Some fighters get brain damaged from too much sparring. Some don't get brain damaged despite long careers and taking of a lot of punishment and others do suffer brain damage.

That's more because of his outstanding defense than chin. Chuvalo used to absorb a lot of punches with his head and body, James often times doesn't even get hit, and when he does it's usually not with the full force of the punch.

I agree. While perhaps an argument could be made that it was mostly his defense that prevented him from taking full on shots, his chin is has obviously been proven at the highest level.

Holyfield could also make a great case for having a great, great, chin. He faced the likes of Foreman, Tyson x2, Lewis x2, Bowe x3 and his chin was extremely durable.

James Toney has super human recover powers. I've seen him get stunned against Peter, against a prime Roy Jones, etc. He has one of the best chins on boxing and honestly if he had the discipline to stay in shape or if he would have moved up to heavyweight sooner than he did, he would have beaten a lot of the greats like Tyson or Holyfield in their primes and we'd be talking about James Toney like we talk about Roy Jones Jr or Bernard Hopkins but he made some errors along the way, lost some matches he should have won, and didn't move up to heavyweight the right way.

I mean when he was beating up Holyfield that is when he should have developed discipline and targeted Wlad and Vitali. Now he's too old.

    Wobble???:lol::lol::lol:

Thats an overstatement to be sure.
Hagler's legs stiffened for a miniscule of a second, but thats far far away from a wobble.

and no i dont think james toney was a natural middle weight. he claims he was 200lbs when he started boxing and had to diet down to 168. he's a natural cruiserweight or light heavyweight.
