Interesting take on this. I consider Miguel Cotto a better boxer than Kirkland. He's more experienced, has better technique, better skill, timing, etc. but if they fought, I think Kirkland's sheer strength and physical power would win him the fight by stoppage. So I would have to agree with you.

As i stated before, i don't look at rankings to judge if a fighter is "world class". I look more at skill. Kirkland's skill level is not at the world class level. He relies on pure physicality to overwhelm his opponents. That only works to a certain extent. When you step up to the highest class, that won't work. At least not against everyone. Sure, he beat a top ranked 154lb fighter but he happened to be another crude, fighter who lacked any boxing skills. Heck, Angulo got freaken outboxed by Cintron of all people.

:think Well by your definition there could be zero 'world class' fighters at a weight class. But there is a top 10 in every division and they are fighting other guys from all over the world. So, if they can beat the vast majority of the rest of the fighters of the world in that particular weight class, they should be considered 'world class'. World class doesn't equal 'great'.

154 is not a very strong division. Cotto is the top ranked fighter in this weight for Christ sakes. But i would say that Lara clearly outboxes him. I think Cotto still has enough left to outbox Kirkland. Canelo is a class above Kirkland in terms of technique and fundamentals. Sergie Dzink outboxes Kirk. The rest of the 154 guys, i'm not sure about. Haven't seen that undefeated, Armenian guy fight yet.

When a fighter reaches the point in thier skillset that he or she is capable of beating any fighter in the world in thier specific weight division then they should be considered world class. Using that criteria, I would have to say that Kirkland is indeed world class.:bbb:bbb:bbb

Like i said, if the definition of "world class" is a top 10 ranked fighter in a division, we already know the answer. But i have my own definition of "world class" and that guy ain't a world class fighter in my book. He doesn't know the definition of defense and is way too wide open. And no, i'm not a hater. I love watching him fight. But his wide open ways will only take him so far. As soon as he steps up to someone who can counter and move, he'll get embarrassed.

If Kirkland is a world class fighter, then ishida is the GOAT?

no one saying he is the next undisputed terror .....but the fact he is showcased on HBO means he is world class ....

do you think chavez jr is world class?

also...arturo gatti had no idea what defense was......but he was world class...world champion, multiple times

    EDIT >>> How so?

Erm, it doesn't work that way. Beating a guy doesn't always mean you're better than him.

Wlad got KTFO by ****in' Ross Purrity, this doesn't mean that Wlad isn't a world class fighter, or that Purrity is better than him.

No, i don't think Chavez Jr is world class. That's exactly why i don't look at rankings to judge whether a fighter is "world class". He's nothing but a manufactured champ.
