He is a moany **** but so what? Just got nailed by a fabulous punch last night. Was game to try to carry on. Not on groves or degales level obviously but no shame in what happened. Trouble is when he fights guys on his level the fights tend to be ****.
Well is he the champion? NO! Was it THAT controversal? NO! There was a good shout for Macklin to have won I agree however there was just as good a shout for Sturm to have won and guess what.... HE DID! Macklin went to Germany to win the World Title, he didnt come back with it, therefore he failed. Sorry buts thats just the way it is. Anyway that wasnt the point of the comment. The point was, if any of the 3 of them choose to campaign around the domestic scene for a fight or two before they try and challenge again, they all beat Smith with relative ease.
When was the last time Smith fought when you can say he look good? I can't remember, he's looked pretty poor in most his fights, even the ones he won.
Very true he got a gift against Quigley and barley scraped past Dodson Smith has never been that good I'm surprised so many don't see this.
I thought Sturm won the Macklin fight, but Macklin didn't "fail" at world level, he come up short against a good champion
You basically meant he isn't a world level fighter Dan. And just because he lost a fight he in which he deserved atleast a draw...that is failing at world level? Just because you lose your failing..atsch I would say taking Sturm that close is a success and proves he can mix with the best at 160.
I think Smith is another one of those fighters that looked good in the amateurs but never managed to transfer that into the professional ranks. There's been plenty more before, and there'll be an even higher % of them in the coming years. Trying to tinker too much with the style doesn't help, often the ''overhaul'' comes when a lad is too set in his ways, and would be best continuing in the style that he previously used. Or turning the clock back and turning pro as soon as he can get a licence, and leave the holding/running to the others.
macklin proved he belonged in world class.now hes gonna get a few good paydays which he deserves.macklin is a few levels above smith imo.smith should go back down to middle,he looked tiny in there against groves.there are a number of uk and irish middleweights who also look too good for smith so i cant see a rosy future for him
Humble !!!!! Thats because he'd just been brutally stopped by a bum in his opinion !!!!! Paul just says all the wrong things , and is very very delusional , he's a MW , he should go back to MW and get on with his career and forget super middle for now , he also should learn some respect , he's not a **** , he just talks **** and can be disrespectfull , its not welcomed by fans :deal
Lads (Boxing analyst in particular), I think you are mis-interpreting what I said. I said, Macklin failed at World Level. He's had one fight at that level and lost. IMO thats a failure. Yes he did better than a lot (myself included) expected. Yes he probably proved he can hang at world level, but the simple fact is he hasnt fought anyone else at world level (despite the fact i think he can compete at that level) and until he does then he hasn't PROVEN so. All I was saying is that if he comes back down to domestic level for a tune up or to build again, he has the beating of Smith at a canter. Nothing to do with what he's capable of at particular levels but facts are facts. A loss is a failure in my opinion, and the fact that its his only fight at that level he's failed at that level.
