We know that there are designer drugs and supplements that help a dirty athlete pass drugs tests. this is a fact. Most people on the know have commented on the fact that the testors are always playing catch up with the newest drugs.

say a very high profile athlete begun using PEDS at time where there was virtually no testing in place . They could use the drugs safe in the knowledge that they will benefit from the substance, but their reputation remains in intacts as they won't get caught

However, suddenly they have the chance to compete for a much higher prize than before, but on the grounds they submit to much more stringent drug testing. Now, not using the substance is out of the question as its a vital part of their preparation, but getting caught would cause catastrophic damage to the reputations of the athlete, their team and possibly their whole sport The athlete either needs to manipulate the testing so that they can safely cycle off of the substance in time for tests, or be absolutely 100% confident that the drug won't show up on random tests.

It seems to me that the most sensible thing is to have a couple of test runs conducting your own in house testing to ensure that the substance is not traceable in any tests. Therefore the athlete continues to compete in events with no testing, all the time conducting their owns tests until they are confident that their substance can not be detected.
