a - he was our champ - the battler ,the blue collar worker ,the working class struggler , the tradies , the underdogs of society went for smokin joe. hated george foreman for knocking down joe six times but mavelled how he kept getting up to go again every time - wheres heart and will like that today

 

I loved what I knew about this bloke. He was by account a good sport and a gentleman. I can't help but recall how poorly Ali treated him after all Frazier did for Ali when he was down on his chips. It was a shame how classless Ali could be at the expense of others.

 

Every man has their faults boxoncottonon, Ali included.

I heard a story about the fight in manilla that I didn't know of.

At the end of the 14th round Ali returned to his corner and said that he was shot and that he didn't think he would be able to fight the last round he was going to throw the towel in.

Only thing was Joe was just as bad and beat him to it by a fraction to give Ali the victory

I wounder how different the 2 would have been looked at if it had been 2-1 to Smokin Joe.

I agree with Leichhardt greatest fighter I had the pleasure of meeting and lucky enough to get a photo with very humble

 

Interested to learn that joe had very poor vision from cataracts...and that was before he started boxing.

On ali continually calling him ugly:

" ive got 11 kids, someone thinks im pretty."

 

Frazier fought a lot of his career pretty much blind. Get your hands on "Ghosts of Manila". Interesting read!
