The way Ricky boxed showed he has a lot of ability I dare say he can shock a few more......Any chance of Ricky vs Mitchell then Billy?

I agree that Murray or Mitchell would be a good next fight.

He & Ricky had a fight lined up many moons ago, & Murray promised to "break Ricky in half" then Murray pulled outatsch

Ricky Burns owes that arrogant git of a fighter nothing, & after Murray loses his next fight Ricky should let him stew in his own arrogance.

Mitchell however? I dont want to see it as it will do nothing to improve Rickys stature, & Mitchell is a dangerous opponent. I fancy Ricky to do a number on him, but I would be telling porkies if I said it wasnt a dangerous fight against a fighter who I like, & respect.

Strike whilst the iron is hot team Burns, & get Ricky his defining fight... cos if admiral Nelson wants to prove Ken Buchanan wrong? Ricky needs bigger fish to fry than kevin Mitchell, with all due respect to the crazy cockney!

 

Dunk there ain't that many fights that improve his stature where Ricky Burns wouldn't be a severe underdog, in truth. And before you say it I know he's been a large underdog against Martinez and ended up one against Kat, but guys like Rios, Gurrero etc are a different story completely.

If he's going to fight somebody just to tick over, he may as well face Kevin Mitchell in a fight that would capture the imagination of UK fans. Theres no point importing somebody over who is also probably semi-dangerous like some of the names mentioned in the OP.

So IMO they have 3 options...

- Go for it and face a top fighter (highly unlikely)
- Fight a decent opponent that Ricky would probably be favoured in (Mitchell, DeMarco etc, Mitchell making the most sense by far)
- Fight a bum, back to the days of Evensen and Laryea

 

I hear you loud & clear TFFP, but Mitchell is too dangerous as a 'tick over' fight if you ask me. High risk, little gain beating a guy like Mitchell, cos of the Katsidis results.
I really rate Mitchell TFFP, & dont like the thought of Burns taking him on, cos I have always said here that a Scotland-England fight brings out the beast in fighters, & unlike Billy Nelson, I could imagime Mitchell raising his game for this one & giving Burns a whole lot of trouble.

Burns is in his prime, they need to strike while the iron is hot. No dangerous scotland-engand derbies at this point to derail him:nono

In an ideal world? JMM. I think Pac will win their final encounter, & I can see JMM boiling back down to defend his title rather than retiring.

Im selfish you see, you englanders are spoiled compared to scottish boxing fans, you regularly get to see your fighters in with the best. Last time I remembered a scottish fighter fighting the elite was when Gary Jacobs fought Pernell Wittaker back in the 80's! So Im sick of waiting Wallet, I want to see Ricky in with the best of the best, thats why Mitchell doesnt rock my boat.

Put yourself in my shoes Wallet. Mitchell beats Kats, he could fight Ricky Burns or JMM. Which fight would you want Mitchell to take?
