At least in the computer fight, Ali got to spar with Marciano a bit. He came out very impressed, much more than before he got in the ring with him.

Hey Suz, not being funny mate but Ali is clearly not standing upright here, plus you can knock another inch off the Rock with the Davy Crockett hat. Your right too about shrinking as 1 gets older

Hope you know I was being sarcastic. The poster above me... well he's always been a character.

Marciano couldn't hang with post 60s heavyweights. He'd be a contender at best in any subsequent era

    :lol::good

NO way was Marciano that tall. And Ali was never 6'3"; 6'2" tops!

Tyson may have been around Marciano's height but he was around 35lbs heavier,5 inches bigger round the chest 2 inches bigger in the biceps and 2 in the forearm,he also had 3 inches of reach over Rocky.A 19 3/4"inch neck.
Plus he was three times as fast.
Tyson had a problem with Tucker, and Smith ,who continually tied him up.

Ali was over 3inches taller, 25lbs heavier, had 14inches of reach on Marciano, was 4 inches bigger in the chest,2 in the forearms,no size issue?

How much bigger would he have to be before there was a size issue?
The key to watching the Ali /Marciano footage, and arriving at a conclusion from it ,are the two words "computer fight". :think

size is one small aspect of the equation, and dosnt allways play to the advantage.

some one like forman was huge and punched slow but powerfully.

but the power dosnt matter against someone who can roll with the punches like ali.

if you hold a piece of paper with one hand and try to punch through it its not a matter of force or power as the paper just moves out of the way. the important part is speed.

thast not to say that size isnt a factor but instead that it has its pros and cons.

things like styles, skill at that style, reflexes, age, prime or non prime play a much more important role in head to head match ups then size.

Thanks for the lesson in the Noble Art, although I think I learned these points when I first started boxing ,over 50 years ago.

I was rebutting Suzie's claim actually.

    Speed is a huge factor.
Ali had it, Marciano did not.
