This is a great win, no doubt, but the 21 yr old lamotta outweighed the 21 yr old robinson by 16 lbs in this fight. how much does this fact take away from his victory? with that said, do you feel this is lamotta's greatest win? thoughts?

btw, damn the fact that there's no footage of their early fights.

Great victory. Weight advantage takes nothing away from it.

Ray could have bulked up if he wanted but he was content to rely on speed and movement.

One of the greatest mw victories in history.

It was a huge win at the time. Not only because of Robinson's reputation and undefeated streak but the fact that LaMotta was not yet seen as a top middleweight. It catapulted him right to the top of the middleweight rankings. In the span of less than a month he had defeated the two of the top welterweights in Robinson and Wilson.

He also put up great efforts in later fights, even going to a razor-close split decision in their 5th fight for which Robinson had added some weight. Robinson proved to be the superior middleweight but being proclaimed as his toughest rival out of all is quite a feat.

it's often hard to be accurate yet still complimentary in such cases...
a credible victory for sure and it's been said Jake deserved one more of the 6 matches too.

BUT and there always is a but, I think Jake is overated, he was a BIG MW, whose greatest victories were against "naturally" smaller men - FACT.

does that make him less of a fighter? YES, than what he is credited with, forsure.

does it mean he isn't a great? NO,
he is but shine the light on it, there were better men around who recieved less and especially at MW.

Was Cerdan ahead in their fight before the injury?

As for LaMotta's win over Robinson...take the large weight advantage away and Robinson wins it

you'll never make a good historian if you can't be an "objective" one...

you single out ONE fighter when there are loads more that were smaller men, FACT

Cerdan too was also a WW cum MW, Jake a MW cum L-HW, Cerdan had 10 years longer of campaigning on Jake, was at the end of it and still fought 8 rounds almost one handed - Fact... you are one of the minority that don't except this, well it's FACT.

IS LaMotta a 'great' I stated he is!

overated? I also stated he gets more than he should, that other fighters didn't, but still a great.:good

Not that highly, it's decent but Lamotta was 3 weight classes bigger pretty much, if they were the same size his great chin would have been shattered

Much less than I rate Artie Levin's win over Robinson .
And if any1 thinks LaMotta would have looked anything special vs some1 like Tony Thornton or Sanderline Williams , well , that 1 must b some delusional muta****a who likes it B&W with speed jumps and missing parts :yep I could name a handful and then some more but they know who they r .

    just on paper .
Being 5'11" and fighting 5'7" midgets does not require 2 much skill , and then he was KOd by 1 of these midgets (not 2 mention that that 1 was even green upon KOing him) .
    However , post prime Smith's opposition @ 160 was somewhat tougher than Monzon's or Hagler's .
