Does Pacquaio's Ridiculous Entourage indicate Insecurity ?

not at all, i am fully aware of the difference in the standard of living. i, in turn, feel that you are making it seem like filipinos live in large groups because of a cultural choice instead of a financial necessity. i also love to be around large groups, i dont like tripping over them when going to my bathroom though.
well i can understand frat house. there is always the few that stay there for six or 7 years and would stay forever if they could. i suppose they share the same love for that type of familiarity with such a large group of individuals.
seeing as how i am no expert on filipino culture, i will concede that perhaps it is a cultural phenomenon that i dont understand. i still believe that pacs particular case is the result of some insecurity. the man has admitted fears and phobias so it is not a far stretch to make.

In the Philippines, loneliness is uncommon. It tends to happen when Filipinos go overseas to places with small Filipino populations. Relationships with family and friends are put at a high priority unlike people of Northern European origin where independence and self goals are the priority. You don't have old age/retirement homes in the Philippines like you have in the US. Our senior citizens live with the children they once raised and are part of the family.

 

It is hard to get, for foreigners.

When my family and extended family (cousins, aunts, grandparents, for example) go on vacations, going to the beach or somewhere cool like Baguio city during summers, we'd rent an apartment or a beach resort hotel room/cottage and I kid you not, we'll manage to fit in 2 whole families inside a room.

The bed overflowing, and everyone else who won't fit, sleeping on mats on the floor.

And my aunts and cousins aren't even poor. They can afford expensive hotel rooms if they wanted to.

To them, it just feels nicer to be together during that vacation, cramped inside that small shack. And all hell is gonna break loose in the morning. Bathroom traffic jams, breakfast in shifts, and lots of activity.

All of the craziness is all part of the experience.

Then by what you just said, you seem to understand Pac's situation. Pac trains in LA for only 2 weeks. Like I said in my earlier post, the living situation at The Palazzo is temporary. Most of the people really don't live there. They are there to hang around Pac and other friends where they play darts, sing karaoke, watch movies, just like normal people (or like normal frat people). They do it because it's fun for them. Some don't stay there every single night as they have family too living nearby.

 

WTF, WHy should Americans give a crap? Your culture is basically irrelevant here.

 

Man, everybody knows that the atomic family structure is in at least broad terms a European thing. Anglos and Latinos do it because they're European, and so are Afro-Americans culturally. Its one of the first things you look at in anthropology. Anyway TS is just trying to troll people by playing like he doesn't know the cultural differences. Don't bite on the bait.

 

It's the same with me. If Americans tried that, just turn on the videocam and you have instant reality show complete with bickering, drama, and fighting. I guess Filipinos just know how to get along and enjoy each others company in big groups much better. To Americans, privacy and space matters more than company.

 

fair enough. in my defence, councelor, one of your defence team members introduced a quote by freddie roach claiming pac lives in a 2 bedroom apartment with 10 people. for the sake of brevity, i hope you get your defense strategy properly coordinated between members. prosecution rests.

 

You must have mistaken the Filipino politicians who come to fights as entourage.

The latest count is that there are 60 congressman wathcing Pac fight. Add their wives and sons and their own entourage and you would get the idea.

The politican who climbs on top of the ring is Chavit Singson. He owns the jet that Pac and Bob Arum uses at the PI. Then there is Atienza, etc.

 

I just didn't think people thought that was a permanent situation at the condo. That complex is a fairly upscale residence where a few Hollywood celebrities reside. The landlord would never allow such a living condition on a permanent basis there and doubt the neighbors would tolerate either for a long period.

 

Pac only has this big of an entourage whenever he is training, and I believe he already explained that having a lot of people around him helps him to relax and relieves the boredom and tedium of the training regimen. Indeed, we can see from his training videos that the atmosphere in his camp is very congenial and fun-loving.

It would be a different matter altogether if he is still surrounded by his entourage even when he is not in training, which is not the case.

 

I also think they're kinda shocked to hear grown men sleeping on the floor inside a hotel room/apartment, like it makes them lesser human beings or something.

We can do with smaller, less bulky, not overly cushioned beds. Large beds take too much space inside a room. "You're wasting all that floor space with nothing? Somebody make him a bed and sleep in the room with all of us." That's the thinking here. Hehe.

A big bed with lots of pillows and thick sheets is not really a traditional Filipino thing. Lots of people here still can comfortably sleep in cushioned mats, anytime. No problem.

Plus a bed like that will feel like hell during the humid summer nights, with no aiconditioning.

 

little details like this or the subtle nuances of filipino culture are not common knowledge to those outside of the paquiao historical society, someone of your superior education should understand something like this. there are just not enough classes on this subject in americas educational system. our bad, i know.
