It's up to the fighter to prove their worth. Doesn't matter what the fans think when they face and beat down all of the best competition.
It's up to the fighter's management to place him in these positions, else there will be controversy.
Don't blame the spectator for the bed the fighter and management have made. :nut

Your setting yourself up to continue being a hater though DDDUUDDDEE. Ward will NOT fight Bute unless Lucian can get a mandate, and even if he does, it will be only when he vacates his IBF title.

Do you really think Froch has a chance of beating Ward. As much as I like Froch, my head says no. Ward will likely keep the fight in close and win a close but clear decision.

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda. That's the Bute story in a nut shell.
Up to his management to strategically get Bute in position. That's what they get paid for, or at least, that's what they should be getting paid for.

I'm not certain if Ward will move up, but considering how much success Hopkins has enjoyed, and assuming he'll be retired in that time frame, I can see Ward moving there and taking over. After he unifies, there won't be much more to prove at SMW.

When Ward starts getting point deductions for head butts, I'll begin to take these whining comments seriously. So far, he hasn't.

Yeah, you do raise some good points :think

I would also be happy with Kessler or Froch (if he loses to Ward). Preferably with both happening outside of Canada.

The best scenario for Bute is that against the odds Froch beats Ward big, by KO.
Coming off a win that big will have Froch's ego in the Stratosphere and he will likely face Bute.

Bute fans better start showing Froch some love and begin rooting for Froch over Ward, big time!

Bute should fight Kessler with the winner getting a shot at Froch (S6 champ)

Will Bute ever find the balls to leave Montreal though? :think

For all Bute interested ESB-ers (be they haters or fans), here you have his most recent interview. For the Romanian-challenged, here is also the translation of the main part:

Lucian, the fight with Johnson is over, now everybody ask themselves who will be your next opponent?
Tough answer. We have to wait the December 17th match in Atlantic City between Andre Ward and Carl Froch. I'll be there, I was invited by Showtime staff. I hope the winner will accept to face me.

What are your feelings, won't they accept?
Sincerely, as far as I could notice, my opinion is that the American Ward won't be willful to box with me. At least, not now. He will say that he wans another tuning up match, probably, that he wants to get some rest. I repeat, this is my [own] feeling, it's not written it'll be so.

So there would be better chances to meet Carl Froch
Yes, it looks like. If he additionally loses the match with Ward, the chances for a match with him will increase even more. [For him] it would be an important fight, an opportunity to get back in limelight.

The next fight in the U.S.A.? You claimed that you want to fight in Las Vegas or New York.
That's right, but it depends on many factors. In the first place, it's about TV, about sold [match] tickets, displayed [public] interest, advertising [of the fight]. In the worst-case scenario, I sell 15-16 thousand tickets at any moment. How many boxers can make similar a point of honor?

Well then, what if your next opponent will not accept to meet you in Canada?
I did not say he should accept! Look for instance at Froch. He is British, he would probably like to fight at home, in London. I would like in Canada, in Montreal or Quebec. [If] we won't agree [on the meeting place], we will choose a neutral place and this [place] should be somewhere in America, normally.

Froch said about you that you're a fake boxer, that you did not met tough opposition. What do you think on that?
These [declarations] are [just] for the marketing, you know how this stuff works. It's very well he declared that. I took notice on what he said, I will close him his big mouth.

You are under contract with Showtime for only another match, aren't you? What will you do next?
The ones from Showtime are pulling me to sign with then for another year, but I'm in no hurry. HBO representatives have also been in contact with me. I'm waiting. I made [in the past] other two matches with HBO, I know them, I know what they're asking for. I will consider both offers and I will sign with the TV which I will estimate that gives more PR opportunities.

Still about your next match, you know that Librado Andrade and the American Don George will fight on December 17th for becoming [the mandatory] IBF world title challenger. What do you think about a third match with Andrade?
I'm saying just that: who do you think will still be interested by such a match? Me, for sure, I don't! I've beaten twice Andrade, the second one by KO, I have nothing else left to show. Anyway, up till then [the possible compulsory Andrade re-rematch] we have some time left. After one of them becomes [the mandatory] IBF challenger, one has nine months left during which one has to defend his title, [that period] can increase if one has another [intermediate] match meanwhile. I don't wonder about such a match.

The Canadian Press announced that you already scheduled a meeting on a fixed date in August 2010 on the Quebec stadium, for a match with an attendance of 25000 spectators. Do you know something about that?
Yes, those from Quebec announced me there is interest for such a match. Now, in the Pepsi Coliseum, the 15000 tickets have been sold out in 45 minutes. I don't think that selling 10000 more would pose a problem [to anyone].

In these conditions it's difficult to fight in America, isn't it?
No, it's not difficult, but I already told you that, it depends on many factors. I don't go in America just for the sake of boxing. My dream is to get [into the ring] at Madison Square Garden and, sooner or later, I will fulfill it.

Bach to your match with Glen Johnson, was that your best match?
From a tactical point of view, I think yes. It was perfect. I don't like to praise myself, but I had speed, reaction, I didn't received many throws, I have been in a very good physical shape, I stayed tuned all along the match. I have nothing to blame myself for [this match].

There are still rumors about the Jamaican being 42 years old, being no match for your value.
There will always be some contestants. I'm happy though they seem to be fewer and fewer. I am telling this for a zillion-th time. I'm not afraid of anybody, I am willing to fight anyone. But in decent conditions!

It wasn't a top spectacular match, was it?
From the public's point of view, no [it wasn't], but I fought according to my schedule. I couldn't stand a [too open] fight with him, he is very strong. Haven't you seen that at the very beginning of the rounds I was running in a hurry to occupate the center of the ring? Then I've put him under pressure, I've put him on his heels. When a boxer is on [near] the ropes, he is no longer able to hit as he wants to.

How did you get your left hand hurt?
In the forth round I threw a jab on his temple. I felt like punctured up to my shoulder. I didn't payed attention. But from the eighth round onward I was reticent to punch hard with my left arm.

    The hand is still swollen?
Just a little bit. I went to the physician, I made a radiography, I am following some physiotherapy, nothing to be worried about. Just a fissure at the ring finger, in the metacarpus. Thanks God for getting out only with that!

Please keep referring to what he actually said and not to what you believe he could have thought.

great thread, Bute's the most hated on boxer on here besides Mayweather and I can't see why. He's tried to make fights with everyone, it's clear he wants the best and aside from Kessler(who arguably is on par with Bute's win over Johnson since Kessler was injured) he has a better resume than Ward. On top of that he's been destroying guys with ease that the S6 guys have fought tough fights against. Not to mention he's exciting, hits hard and is very marketable.

Interesting. Gate revenues would be huge by North American standards. Wonder if Kessler generates more cash. If Bute-Froch is considered for this, I wonder if Froch's offer would include a football stadium's attendance.

Bute-Froch out in the open, with a bit of rain for R11-12, July 2012. Don't care where, both would make insane money. :D

I don't understand the obsession with Bute fighting outside Montreal. Most fighters are more than happy to go where the money is. In a Bute fight the money is in Montreal. Lucian puts asses in seats. Usually somewhere around 20,000 of them! No other fighter at 168 has that kind of regional following. Putting a fight elsewhere would mean a BIG pay cut for BOTH fighters. It doesn't make sense.

Herschman has told several different stories about why they excluded Bute from the S-6. However, they all end the same way. Lucian Bute was not invited.

When we look at a fighter's resume' we should look at more than just who he fought. We should also look at when he fought them, why he fought them, how the fight went down, and what the opponent did afterward. For example, Bute/Andrade II had to happen, and Bute handed Librado his ass. Bute/Zuniga was a "stay busy fight" because Andrade wanted a tune-up before the rematch. Lucian stopped Zuniga and made it look easy. An old, fat, ring worn Zuniga recently went the distance with Cloud, and looked pretty good at times. Bute has not fought the best in the division because they were not available. However, the opposition Bute faced was good enough to make Bute's skill level obvious.

There isn't a single Bute fan who does not want Lucian to face the S-6 winner. That is a fight that must happen. I'm confident that it will unless the S-6 winner finds a way to avoid it.
