Is there anyone in history more fluid/smooth/elegant than Willie Pep?

We have to believe sportswriters and see Leonard as smoother than Pep?

I think the best way to judge Leonard smoothness is to look at the little footage we do have and pair that with what the writers were saying about how declined he looked in comparison to their description of his earlier fights.

Benny Leonard was more technical, but not smoother. He was a bit more herky jerky than Pep, and that's not just the footage.

We are truly splitting hairs,as to who is the "smoothest, most fluid etc",when the question should be "who was the most "effective" boxer between various boxers,I would think. For instance,Willie Pep was truly "an escape artist " who was almost surreal in anticipating his opponents next move. A sixth sense, sort of. A Billy Graham ,was a classical smooth boxer, not as herkey- jerky as Pep, but very effective. If Billy Graham
whom I saw as a prelim fighter could PUNCH hard, he would be a top 5 WW. Durable with a great CHIN, never kod, nor hurt in 126 bouts. There ,was a "smooth" by the rules boxer...

How many times have you read experts opinions on a fight that you happened to miss the night before then when you watch it its in your opinion not quite what they lead you to believe ????.... lots of times in my case is the answer.

I will never discredit the greats that made this sport just because they have zero or **** footage but I certainly won`t be naming them ahead of the greats the I have seen in a thread that asks specifically about things such as smoothness & fluidity.

We are not talking about one bout, that does not impress you upon seeing it the next day. No, bb, it is the body of work a fighter of yesteryear produces in his career, that should determine a fighter's place in history.NO FIGHTER THAT EVER LIVED, looked like a world beater in every fight.NONE.

K, I don't understand your logic. You say "here Burt goes again" with the writers of the past. So by your philosophy, we should only talk about the fighters we have seen today, and DISCARD the thousands of fighters of before YOUR time. After all K,what YOU or I and the REST of ESP must rely on are the history of people BEFORE us. Like in American history, disregard, Washington , Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, etc, cause their place in our history were written by "writers of the day". Silly and illogical I say. Cheers... P.S. There was a past before us,and we should learn frm that past...
