Is there anyone in history more fluid/smooth/elegant than Willie Pep?

I'm not saying that at all... what I'm saying is this... If there is NO film footage of him to compare him to what we CAN see of Pep.. then to say well "the writers of the day" said he was really fluid and a great boxer.. At which point, you throw his name in there as a valid comparison IS my ONLY problem. Let me give you a MMA example... When people wrote about Machida (during his run up to the title) he was the next greatest thing.. the complete package.. you couldn't hit him he was so elusive. Then when he won... the headlines were welcome to the Machida era (as if he would reign supreme for a long time, and judging by the writers and what they said about him.. sounded just about right) What happened next.. he should've lost in his first defense and DID lose in his second. My point is this.. and I hope you understand it.. Sure writers of the day are a source to look at when researching a fighter.. THEY ARE NOT the end all be all of how good a fighter was. If you know anything about media sources in general.. you should know they writer to sell newspapers and magazines.. Thus the manner in which they write often times over glorify people and their skills. We see this in every sport imaginable and throughout history. If you appreciate history (like I think you do), you should understand this is a very real thing. Thus, I think you understand my point, which is nothing more than.. I don't give AS MUCH credit and validity to such sources as you do. They deserve to be reviewed and acclimated into your research to form a conclusion, but done so understanding the inherit faults of the writing and also factor that in. Hopefully that clears up my position.

Pedroza was more elegant as well imo

 

Sandy Saddler was very elegant. Fluid holding & hitting, smooth headbutting and elbowing, truly a complete package.

 

Saw Saddler a few times, and after he retired. Picture Fritzie Zivic and Sandy Saddler fighting at even weights ! No referee needed, just the warden...atsch
