The fine print doesn't change the fact that Oliveira dominated the fight and would have won easily anyway. Tolliver was gone on his stool at the end of the 7th and the last 3 minutes were going to be an absolute eternity for him.

A courageous but terrible performance from Frank LoPorto. A suckerpunch overhand right and granite chin with nothing to support it won't win him too many big fights.

 

Nobody is denying that Oliveira (after the first thirty seconds) was the better man tonight. He absolutely deserved a win.

The question is what kind.

The TKO ruling was nonsense.

The ref stopped it due to a foul; that's a DQ.

So, be thankful for small blessings - the TKO reverting to a DQ was a relief.

REALLY, though - if we're being particular, it shouldn't have even been a DQ. The last three minutes weren't going to be an eternity, because there weren't three minutes left. There was a little over one minute remaining on the eighth round clock. I seriously doubt Oliveira was going to stop him in that time. Toliver should have been warned for the "punch" on the break and then allowed to spoil his way to the final bell to lose a wide decision.


What we should have gotten was Oliveira UD8 Toliver.

What we got was Oliveira DQ8 Toliver.

What we frighteningly almost had was Oliveira TKO8 Toliver.

 

Eric Williams probably put Robert Chapa in a headlock and let Toliver zap him with lead rights until he relented.
