Ifeel your pain.Myself and 2 buddies have tickets to the fight,hotel rooms booked and non refund plane tickets confirmed.If Margo not on the card it will be a big let down-but that wont stop us from having a great time in a great city,which is where I am from!:thumbsup

Keith Kizer, the executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, said on Wednesday he is "as comfortable as I can be" that Antonio Margarito's hand wraps and gloves weren't doctored during his July victory over Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Margarito's career-defining win over the previously unbeaten Cotto has come into question after two plaster-like pieces were found in Margarito's hand wraps before his bout with Shane Mosley Jan. 24 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The California State Athletic Commission has the two hardened pieces and announced late Wednesday the licenses and Maragarito and his trainer Javier Capetillo were temporarily suspended pending a hearing Feb. 10. A long-term suspension could jeopardize a potential rematch with Cotto this June in the Garden. Nevada will honor the suspensions while the investigation continues. "We're definitely going to listen to whatever California says when they finish their investigation," Kizer said. "We would hope it was all on the up and up and it was a misunderstanding. But I'm sure California will do a thorough job and let the fans and the media and everyone know what happened."

Kizer is sure everything was on the "up-and-up" in July when Margarito took the WBA welterweight title from Cotto with an 11th round TKO. Cotto dropped to a knee twice in the 11th beaten, battered and bloodied by a relentless two-fisted assault by Margarito. Cotto's face looked disfigured from the damage. Margarito not only won the title that night, but superstar status that resulted in a record crowd of nearly 21,000 fans at the Staples Center for the fight with Mosley. But word came just before the bout that Margarito's hands had to wrapped three times and HBO commentator Larry Merchant told viewers that "an illegal pad" was found in Margarito's wraps, "something that would harden when wet." Jim Lampley later referred to it as an "illegal implement," adding "inevitably, the question will arise, 'Did he have that in the hand wrap last July. Did it harden like plaster of Paris? Was it a factor in the fight." Kizer is confident the rules and procedures in Nevada prevent any irregularities during hand wrapping and putting on the gloves. "We have experienced inspectors not only watching the hands being wrapped, but also the gloves being put on," Kizer said. "They feel the wraps and sign them and then the gloves and sign them." One difference between Nevada and Calfornia is that Nevada provides the gauze for the hand wrappings, while California allows fighters to use their own gauze.

Speaking specifically about July, Kizer said, representatives from the Cotto camp were in Margarito's dressing room during the entire wrapping of the hands. "They were in there from the beginning," Kizer said. "Not only them but people from HBO, people from MGM, there are always a dozen or so people in the dressing room. "I'm pleased with the process we have in Nevada," Kizer said. "Not only does it stop anybody who tries to do something like that, it stops anybody who is thinking about doing it."

How can Kizer be so sure of all of this if he's on record as saying he wasn't present for the hand wrapping?

"First of all, we gotta get the facts right," Arum said. "Evangelista was not in there when the wrapping took place and that led to the breakup between Miguel and Evangelista. Neither was Miguel Diaz there. They were taking care of some f*****g preliminary fighter when all this was going on."

Arum said that is why Cotto eventually fired his uncle as well as Diaz, who is now Pacquiao's cut-man.

"After the February fight (against Michael Jennings), after the comeback fight, that's when he (Miguel Cotto) realized that nobody was back there watching the wraps," Arum said.

Kizer was told of Arum's comments in a follow-up call.

"Well, Bob was not back there, nor was I," Kizer said. "But Jack Lazzarotto and Jay Nady were. And when the hands were wrapped, Evangelista was back there, that was my understanding. ... From everyone I've talked to, Evangelista was back there and he was definitely on his game and definitely observing the hand wraps of Mr. Margarito."

Anyway, Miguel Diaz is on record as saying he supposed to obsereve Margarito's hands being wrapped, but did not because he was tied up with Cesar Canchilla, who fought Giovanni Segura in the co-feature. Though, I heard on another site (I think Dan Rafael said so in one of his chats)that Miguel's doctor or lawyer may have been present during the wrapping.

I think Cotto will be pissed off if he doesn't get to fight Marg, win or lose. I think the issue for Cotto is that he thinks Marg was cheating so the defeat is harder to take. If he wins he gets retribution, if he losses then he can put it down to Marg being the better man (if its a clean win of course).

I think Cotto needs this more than Marg and will be disappointed if it doesn't happen.

It would be an absolute disgrace if this fight didn't happen. I understand the commission wanting to protect Margarito but how the hell as it got this far, when the fight is still in jeopardy? Arum is doing a complete disservice to Margarito here. Assuming the commission wouldn't let him box because of his injuries, then Arum has put huge pressure on them by arranging press conferences, got HBO involved, let fans buy tickets etc.. Arum has made it hard for the commission to stop the fight now and if Margarito's health is in jeopardy, then it'd be Arum's fault if he gets hurt.

I feel for the fans if this doesn't go ahead though. They've been ****ed over by Arum too and a Vanes fight is nowhere near compensation for one of the biggest fights of the year and the biggest grudge match in a long, long time.

In short, Arum is a dick.

The Ophthamologists are on board with Arum and will reinforce their clearance.

It's just the NY Commisioner is flexing muscles.

I believe the commissioner is a female and it just might be a case of a chip on the shoulder and dick measurements.
She just wants to prove her's swings as well!!I still believe the fight is on!!!

I believe this too. Its all a dog and pony show and it would look bad on them if they dont at least go through the motions then marg gets badly hurt. Apparently all they want is the Doctor's approval and they already have him in the pocket.
