Bit drunk now, so bear with me. Some random thoughts in the immediate aftermath: 1 - Juan Manuel Marquez held the weight much better than I thought he could. Looked muscular, strong and sharp above his best weight 2 - I underestimated the value of 'styles make fights'. I thought Manny's physicality would have been more important 3 - Juan Manuel Marquez is a better fighter than I thought he was. Tactics were spot on. Very cerebral fighter, and credit to Nacho Beristain as well 4 - Manny Pacquiao has clearly declined since his zenith in 2009. He does not move as quickly or punch as venomously as when he demolished Miguel Cotto. I suppose this is only to be expected when a fighter who relies so much on speed and power reaches 32-33 years of age. Same thing happened to Roy Jones albeit a bit later. Once Roy's reflexes/stamina/power faded he was a much lesser fighter. Pac isn't there yet as his punch resistance is still excellent, but it's clear to me he has lost some of his old intensity 5 - I don't know if Manny was complacent or if he was distracted by his political career or whatever, but it really looked like he hadn't formulated a proper gameplan like he did for Oscar and Cotto. Relentlessly coming forward throwing the same shots, Manny is better than that. Bad night at the office 6 - The UK TV coverage was an absolute sham. The commentator, Steve Collins and Steve Bunce were so obviously affected by the fact they expected Pacquiao to win easily, then it didn't turn out like that, that they completely overreacted to the decision. Some of the bollocks getting spoke was pretty unbelievable for people who are supposed to understand the sport. Steve Collins' scorecard was 118-113 - what the **** is that??? That's a ridiculous tally to reach in any fight, so if that's the kind of nonsense they were coming up with they really have no credibility 7 - I want to see a fourth fight. Manny's farewell in the Philippines vs his greatest in-ring rival would be a good way to go 8 - I'm no longer so interested in a Mayweather fight. It seems Floyd has successfully waited out Manny's peak, a la Ray Leonard waiting out Hagler. In 2009, I'd have backed Manny to stop Floyd. Now, I can see Floyd using similar tactics to Marquez and outboxing a declined Manny on points 9 - I did not score the fight as I was too nervous to do so, obviously did not expect it to be so close. My impression was that Marquez was 4-2 up after 6, but that Manny outworked him in enough of the second half of the fight to make it very very close indeed. I understand the Mexicans in the arena being up in arms, neutrals overreacting because they anticipated a beatdown and it didn't happen, and *****s absolutely creaming their pants... but ultimately it was a very close fight and I'll need to score it properly tomorrow to post a scorecard 10 - I am proud of the heart Manny displayed to take the fight to Marquez in the second half after suffering a discouraging first half of the fight. This is the spirit that has made Manny have the best career of any fighter since Pernell Whitaker and Ray Leonard were in their primes War Pacman Forever. :happy This content is protected
Floyd waiting for pac to decline?! Arum has been waiting for floyd to decline you ******. Also how could you say this was close? It was clear as day who won JMM.
No. No war Pacman. WAR JMM! You beat the weight, you beat father time, you beat Pac. The judges beat you. War Juanma!
Marquez has his number, time to just accept that. Personally I dont think it has any bearing on a Mayweather fight . Floyd is very different style-wise then Marquez and I think Pacquiao does a lot better against him. But I agree that Pacquiao has declined a bit physically. I didn't see the intensity there either, but I think he was just being overly cautious about being countered. I don't think these two need to fight again. It's clear that every fight will go about the same exact way, no need to repeat it again. Marquez should be satisfied if he believes he won and I'm sure most of his fans feel the same.
**** off you idiot. Pac clearly lost the fight, khan was being generous to pac throughout the whole fight and still had pac losing. The british commentary was spot on, my friend was watching the HBO commentary while we scored the fight via BBM, he was laughing his head off at the excuses they were making why pac was winning the rounds, it was hilarious. I no longer have any interest in watching floyd fight pac, although i believe he would school pac, he will not be given the correct decision. Pac got completely out boxed, it wasn't even close at all.
predicted pac to tko marquez and 5 and i was wrong. pac and marquez will always be close fight! styles make fight.
A ******* thoughts on Pac vs Marquez 3. I thought Marquez beat Pacquiao twice already.I did not want to watch this fight because it would be much of the same.I hope that the decision is overturned this is just sad day for Boxing.I was surprise how strong Marquez was tonight. He was taking punches well and i thought hit much harder than Manny and more importantly was accurate.
predicted pac to tko marquez and 5 and i was wrong. pac and marquez will always be close fight! styles make fight.
JMM's movement and punch deliverance looked as if he was naturally fit for the weight, which was indeed a surprise. Credit to him and his team for transforming him into a 144lb fighter.
You guys have to realize that Pac has problems with pure counter puncher/boxers... he just simply DOES! Even cotto, who is not have the fighter Marquez is when it comes to counter punching/boxing had success when he did. It has much bearings on the Maweather fight, as Mayweather can do everything Marquez can. And all camp long they were talking about how much fire pac has in him for this fight. He looked the sharpest I have seen him since the cotto fight. This style just doesn't suit Pac well, he gets frustrated and Marquez put on a dazzling performance. Pac had his intensity, but intensity means nothing when you got a guy who is a very intelligent counter puncher in there, who can make you miss and all. This type of fighter uses your intensity against you, and it will frustrate you. Pac has always gotten frustrated when someone decides to box/counter punch him. He simply does not like this. No one is paying attention to the fact that Marquez is 38 years old... I find it completely ridiculous that people are using the ole pac is slipping. No he isn't, he is still very good. You "fans" need to stop doing this. This is nothing similar to Jones fall...! Jones fall was so obvious, as he spent a great amount of time on the ropes during the fight. With Pac he just got frustrated. I think Roach may have made him into too much of a boxer now... it played into Marquez style well.
Respect brother. You and me both know the lateral movement displayed over the three fights are something Mayweather is not habituated to.
You know what i find totally amusing is that most of the *******s that downplayed CompuBox before are now the ones using it to justifies why Manny won the fight now that it works in their favor.
