A great boxer-counter puncher .... who cannot change his game plan even knowing his fighting style was not succesful before? He tried to be an aggressor vs Floyd which was total failure and which proved he cannot be successful fighting differently .... so is he a 'great' but one dimensional counter-puncher?
what are you talking about? Marquez landed every shot in the book with Pacman. Uppercuts, bodywork..he did it all. Pacquiao looked like an amateur.
I'm not sure if the only Marquez fights you've seen are the Mayweather and Pacquiao fights and so I can't answer with anything else but to suggest you watch the rest of his career. The man is as smart as they come when in the ring. He fights certain styles mostly because of his physic. But he is most definitely not limited as you make him out to be.
Off course his punches were landed pefectly clean as punches from a great counter puncher supposed to be landed ... however they first were rare, second did not affected PAC too much, even if Marquez did not followed them to set more action on his own ... a great counter punching at his best! ..... and yet Marquez lost again ... its really hard to believe he was robbed 3x in a row, its more that his style does not play well with the more aggressive boxer as PAC .... and Marquez not only cannot change his style, he believes his style is most effective for him .... or maybe he is not capable of changing his game plan because he is one dimensional?
I also think it is OK ... Marquez is one of the greatest fighters Mexico produced, and he is currently at the top of p4p list ... but it seems he lacks this spark which could give him the success against the best .... the question is why being such great boxer he is not capable to change his game plan when it is needed?

I'm drunk so maybe I overreacted but you realize that when you out-box someone completely it's hard to get the idea of changing your tactics. He is not one dimensional because he started as a pure defensive counter puncher and after the John fight he transformed into an aggressive combination puncher (one of the best ever for me) who as someone stated can trow any punch ever known into the boxing game. He scored a lot of KOs and he really busted up and hurt Pac in the second fight. The man is a legend the only clear loss in his record is against Floyd. I have been honored to see some of his greatest fights and for me he is far from one dimensional.
So as a counter-puncher he adapts his style to fit his opponents style (which varies greatly fight to fight) and that makes him one-dimensional?
i think what this guy is trying to say is that while the general consensus say that PAC cant fight moving backwards... JMM seems to also not able to fight moving forward :huh i know it does sound weird but yeah i think i see your point(basing on the FMJ and John fights) but then again...it depends on your definition of "ONE DIMENSIONAL" .......btw i had JMM winning by a point
this and more over ... he is mostly not initiating actions, he is responding to opponent (as the previous poster said ... he is adopting to opponent style) but what makes him one dimensional is that he is not trying to change this style successfully, as he is not following his clean shots, he is not pressing opponent following the success of his counter-punches ... right ... he tried differently vs Floyd but that was total failure.
