Marquez put on a masterful display or boxing last night but at the same Manny, imo looked like a fighter in decline.
Marquez fought beautifully and made Pacq look worse than he actually is. Boxer-types with great timing who know how to fight going back would always give him problems. Even Cotto won the 1st round but became less mobile and hittable credited to Pacquiao figuring him out. Really that was the last fight he was prime and motivated in though Marquez would always present problems to him.
Pac vs Marquez seems to be Pacs weakness. Sure hoping Floyd believes he can duplicate Marquez three showing vs Pac. This fight last night might be the one that actually gets Floyd to grow a pair.
man... pac always has trouble when people move and it frustrates him. remember when cotto found out how hard pac hit, he decided to box and had some success, which frustrated pac, but cotto is not the boxer jmm is and he went back to standing in front of cotto with his limited defense and head movement. He did not REGRESS! Did he look horrible when he beat the **** out of Margo??? No. It's like you said.. all down to his opponents footwork. You guys act like he has been fighting master boxer/counter punchers with good foot/head movement and defense. he hasnt. his last opponents have beem Mosley, Margo, Cottely, cotto, hatton... the last pure counterpuncher/boxer he fought who was Marquez. I didn't count Hoya because he was a dead man and just not good. Pac would walk through any fighter who is a stationary target who offers him no movement or or angles by their footwook/or reflexes. stop making excuses for him. Marquez did the same thing in other fights, but it was more perfected now and the difference is pac is a better boxer now. it's like Nacho said, he is not an animal now, he is more technical and not running in their head first as much.
Not really. 1. Marquez is really a stylistic nightmare for him. 2. He has gone complacent due to the hype created on his previous wins, and also the non boxing related distractions he's having (singing, politics, celebrity status, etc). To be honest I think this is a good wake up call for Pacquiao. He is lucky he didn't pay for it with an official loss. I want the old Pacquiao back.
The only stylistic nightmare is that JMM didn't stand flat footed in front of him and slug like the rest of the flat footed shot cherry picks they put Pac in there with. :deal The only wake up call was the confirmation of exactly why Pac won't drug test. He doesn't want any part of the skillset that FMJ brings to the table. :bart
No. Pac simply has trouble against fighters who can fight on the backfoot. He still does not know how to cut the ring and he still does not have variety in his punches when facing a technical fighter. He simply relies on the basic 1-2 combination
WHen he was a "Wildcat" he was dangerous, but now that he is more polished and beat guys he was supposed to beat he still fails the test of beating a master boxers such as Marquez. Before he was polished he put on a better performance last night just proved what Marquez was saying about him. He is more polished so it will be easier and it was.
Marquez has Manny's number. If this pair fights 1000000 times, the result will still be the same. Throw in cotto-marquez. cotto beats the **** out of juan.
