Watching the fight live I had Marquez winning clearly by two rounds. However, after watching the fight this morning, without the sound on, I saw the fight a bit differently - many rounds were even and hard to score (not much in them). I thought Pacquiao came on late in the fight in rounds 8-12, he snatched 3 rounds there for me and could have arguably won another 3-4.. Both men were missing a lot later on in the fight so it was difficult to score. I can see why rounds were given to Pacquiao for being the aggressor in the fight. I really wouldn't have been bothered with a draw to be honest. It was defiantly no robbery after rewatching carefully without paying attention to the commentary.
You know how it is, some clowns score fights on ineffective aggression as and when it suits their agenda
I completely understand what you're saying, and I'm not digging in the slightest. But here's why I feel punch stats are irrelevant. Fight A lands 20 jabs in a round, fighter B lands 19 heavy, effective power shots. Should fighter A be given the round? I'm not so sure
This fight has made me question even more how many in the sport judge boxing. It barely seems important that one guy lands all the clean and harder shots and controls their opponent, if the other guy moves forward he will win the decision.
Will have to watch again because I thought Pacquiao edged it by a round (6-5-1). For me it was a very close fight with pretty much every round bar one or two that could really have gone either way depending on your perspective
Exactly... People talking about the aggressor... When jmm was leading and taking the initiative he isn't given credit. A lot of the exchanges were started by Marquez and he was successful with them. When PAC was leading he was always falling short. It seems if you are goingnforward, thats enough for you to be aggressor and therefore win rounds, regardless of effectiveness and clean punching.
Same here. Watched it live & scored it a draw, second time i watched it & had Pac 115-113. Very close fight, kudos to Marquez, though.
I can see what people are saying and i totally agree that just aimlessly pressing the fight does not give a boxer the round, BUT in rounds that are very close and hard to score pressing the fight and being the aggressor can swing it in a boxers favour. Again like i said its how you judge a fight
And yet Pac landed 38 more punches, how does that work? I haven't seen the fight yet so don't bite my head off.
Depends on your definition of 'landed'. He landed about 2 in 12 rounds of highlights. At the end of the day, Pacquiao and Roach knew they lost. Roach because he said it during and the shape of the fight didn't really change afterwards, and Pacquiao because of his reaction after the bell.
I genuinely think people are going over the top with marquez and im a huge fan. The scorecards of 11-1,12-1,10-2 to JMM are absurd. There is definitely a degree of supporting the underdog, marquezs popularity and someone doing better than expected. I think alot of people need to watch this fight again with the sound off. I thought marquez had won but im a huge fan and love the way he fights and assumed Pac would get the nod.
