Some people on here are claiming Marquez didn't do enough to win!? That's bewildering! Who enacted their game plan? - Marquez - back off and counter punch, that's his style, he did it all night. Sure Pacquiao's style is to come forward, but he needed to land something substantial too, which he just couldn't do. Who consistently threw the last punch in exchanges? - Marquez Who landed the cleaner more effective punches? - Marquez Who landed more combinations? - Marquez (which tells a tale in itself as he's a one, two punch counter puncher at best) Who decided when they would engage? - Marquez Who dominated the ring? - Marquez - Yeah Pac was coming forward all night, but he didn't cut Marquez off once Who was better defensively? - Marquez Who's body language said they won? - Marquez Who's body language said they lost? - Pacquiao - He didn't even raise his glove after the 12th, he knew he was a beaten man. Who looked lost for ideas in the ring? - Pacquiao. It was as clear as day for me, I was indecisive about 7-5 or 8-4 Marquez, but it was Marquez no doubt.
Marquez 8-4. It was the first time I've seen Pac look utterly lost for ideas, completely befuddled mess throughout, in a way reminding me of Mosley in the Floyd fight. 4th fight will probably happen but justice will never be done.
8-4 Marquez - and I'm being generous to Pac. Marquez won that fight CLEARLY and was robbed of a well deserved victory. Brilliant fight, horrible decision.
Just about to rewatch it, had it 7-5 JMM last night. I don't quite feel as strongly as nearly every other person regarding this particular fight being an outright robbery. For me it's more the injustice that in 3 encounters with Pac where JMM has more than shown he is at least Pacs equal he hasn't been given a win. Absolutely devastated for JMM though :-( Really thought he had it when Buffer was reading out the scorecards. Was all ready to jump up and give a big joyous fist pump in honour of JMM getting the decision.
To be fair I read a few in the General atsch Sorry for tarnishing the Brit forums impeccable reputation! But my points still stand!
What I wrote on another thread... Although Marquez won IMO, people have gone overboard with the robbery stuff. I just scored it and had it 117-113 for Marquez but there were so many close rounds. I had two 10-10 rounds and 6,7 and 8 which I gave to Marquez were not exactly dominant. US judges always like aggression and even if Marquez landed the cleaner shots if a he only lands 6 of those in a round where Pac throws twice as many punches and lands 3 clean but a good few on the gloves etc then it's not that surprising he took some rounds. Round 5 was a really clear Marquez round for example. I definitely feel he got shafted but this was not a Lewis-Holyfield level robbery and so many rounds were tight.
I watched hbo and didn't score it too closely. I thought they favoured PAC, lederman anyway, but I was edging towards him. The punch stats agreed on the whole too, but in a fight like that the stats can be misleading or plain wrong. My gut feeling was that PAC edged it on work rate. But Marquez negated him and did the cleaner work. That doesn't automatically mean you win though. The key point strike makes here is that Marquez would defend well and land some clean counters and some single lead shots. But if that's 5-7 punches in a round and PAC throws 20 more punches, even if they hit gloves or are glancing blows, those rounds are going to be hard to score. And these days the guy going forward does tend to get the nod. I'm a bit surprised at the outrage but I do agree the comments by the respective corners and the reactions of the fighters does tell something of a story. Id have to rematch it but it's not a fight id savour rewatching.
Sums up what I feel :good The HBO team were disgraceful last night as well. Lederman and Lampley would not shut up about 'volume punching' and I don't think mentioned once about just how ineffective Pacs work was. It was only Kellerman last night who spoke any sense, and I lost count just how many times he had to mention that JMM was in fact doing well and the rounds could/should be scored to him when the rest of the team were spouting shite. I'm really going off the HBO team at a very quick rate.
They lost me during the DeMarco/Linares fight. Worst commentary I have EVER heard during that fight. Now I won't watch any HBO unless I have to. Really shite commentary team, even Steward is abysmal nowadays.
I had it marquez 8-4. The body langauge of the two camps at the end of the fight says it all. Disgraceful decision.
