People are just being dramatic now. Even fat Dan scored the fight a draw.

Rather than calling it a gift, and discrediting the fighters performances, why can't we just be happy that it was a good clean fight, a close fight, and a subjective win for BOTH.

Nobody expected Marquez to have what it takes at his age to duplicate his historic best, but he did, and for that, and that alone, people claim he was robbed.

Close fights ALMOST never go to the challenger. My god, this is as old as Joe Louis and Ray Robinson winning their close fight.:rofl

No, people claim he won because he boxed Pacquiao's head off.

You'll see a huge ratio of JMM won to Pac won.

 

This made me think of Clottey-Cotto earlier. Almost exactly my sentiments, except I was expecting JMM to make this a defining fight of his career and he did. Pacquiao just got hit with flush power shots often enough for people to be convinced, which were virtually HBO's highlight reel (and totally not the lightning fast scraps that were even or edged in favor of either combatant in every round) People tend to over-react in polar opposites when things don't go according to plan. The great tragedy here is that the controversy has negated the value, due to a vocal contingent, what was a really close and great fight.

However, I will re-watch the fight to give proper credit and respect to both warriors; rounds win fights and punch connection volume wins rounds-


I usually decide in favor of the person who connects cleaner as a rule and I'm often wrong to judge's preferences, but Pac was hitting soundly, just not nearly in a shut-out like his prior fights- people who are calling this a case of Kotelnik-Alexander should just accept that it was a very close world class fight totally outside that level, that was even on my card at many points, was even for almost everyone watching at many points.

The most common complaint at the venue was that Pac needed to do something more to make his shots look convincing, strafing 1-2 maneuvers, etc. which means nothing to a judge.


Although Pacquiao didn't dominate all the time in aggression and in an overwhelming flashy sense all the time (he often did when they clashed) and many of the punches were stifled by Marquez' champion reflexes, this was not a contest of how ineffectual Marquez could make Pac's punches roll, even if he was having trouble reaching him often.

Pac was efficient and landed a heap of power shots throughout the fight (more than Marquez) enough for the scorecards that were read, especially the draw and 115 card-

As for the cards people are reading, giving one or two rounds to Pac in favor of Marquez, hurray for Shah Mayweather and Calzaghe must be the worst ever. That kind of nonsense just leaves a bitter taste in everyone's mouth.

In any event, congratulations to Pacquiao for his successful defense, and Marquez for one of the greatest, if not the greatest and entertaining fight of his career. He's more than proven that he belongs in boxing's history immemorial.

 

Dan Rafael is a complete idiot all his scores are meaningless. Everybody knows this, no matter who you like.

 

I had Marquez winning fight comfortably ? Alright I had a few beers and I have not rewatched it today but wasn't even Roach saying to PAC that he needs a KO ? Or did I get more pissed than I thought and imagine that ?

I think Dan is one of the worst boxing scorers, but it's funny to see how ppl agree with Dan when it fits their agenda ie Dan scoring the fight for jmm in the previous bouts, and then they flame him once he scores it a draw in this fight

It is almost impossible to be objective on this fight. By now sides have been taken and perceptions are skewed on both sides.

 

Ok, thats fine, but fat Dan's scorecard does not mean anything at all. It never does.

 

This is why I waited to watch teh fight again before I scored it. People get caught up in the moment and they dont look at things objectively. It was close fight. About as close as the second fight ,even though Pac didnt score any knockdowns.
