Pacquiao is still number 1. Nothing much has changed really. I don't know why people are so shocked that Marquez was able to give Pacquiao so many problems, tbh. The guy had already fought on equal terms for 24 rounds.
Thats what gets me mate. Pac has had trouble with JMM for the last 2 fights, its hardly a shock that it happened for a 3rd time is it? (Norton-Ali)
Is there an argument for froch to be in there instead of martinez?? With the exception of bute and ward he has fought and beat all the top guys convincenly in his division ( other then kessler ) and don't see what martinez has done to be in there above him except beat the overhyped williams. If not froch, then wladimir has to be in there surely
Norton-Ali is the comparison to make for those that want to prove Floyds superiority to Pacquiao based on last night. Foreman>Ali? :think Exactly.
Wladimir has a case for continued success, but his resume is **** because his division is shocking (one of the worst eras for any weightclass in the history of boxing) Williams was not 'over hyped' he was a ****ing nightmare. Martinez is the no.1 Middleweight, and also beat Pavlik handily, not a great win but certainly comparable to some of Froch's best wins. Froch not yet the consensus SMW king. If Froch beats Ward he's undeniably top 6-8. Rematch and defeat Kessler he's taking the **** and against all odds one of the best P4P fighters today.
Thats not what I was saying mate. The comparison was just one fighter who always had problems dealing with another fighter. Forget about Mayweather.:hey
I know the point you're making, and should've confirmed that, I've been discussing that same comparison earlier today so forgive me for taking it in another direction. My point stands. One mans superiority over a fighter who gives another one problems doesn't mean the first man is the better fighter.
Exactly. I think that 'shock' factor has played into people's scoring as well. Sometimes people give a guy more credit when he does something he wasn't expected to do (that's not an indication on who i think won the fight, btw). We all know Marquez is a stylistic nightmare for Pacquiao. He just has his number. The only doubt for me was how Marquez would handle the weight with Pacquiao's physical advantages. However as soon as i saw what they weighed up to on the night i was screaming this fight would be another 'life and death' struggle for Manny. Just a pity i couldn't get on here. The weight was my only misgiving. In my mind i knew Pacquiao never really weigns up that much anyway and that the weight wouldn't be a big issue, but people talked me into believing it was a big issue and a deciding factor.
And I'm not too arsed about Floyd anymore, he's a fairly insignificant fighter in the grand scheme of things, I've got far more interesting and capable fighters to concern myself with. In fact, this era as a whole doesn't interest me. I prefer 6oz gloves, 15 round fights and same day weigh in's. This era isn't for me.
