http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/arti...sortby=dateAsc Jackson is often said to be green and undernourished for this early fight. There is no doubt that he probably did improve, but I think this is blown out of proportion. As seen here, Jackson had a decent camp and time to train. And here is a good description of the farnan lees fight. I must say, that Matt raises a very interesting point though about Lees and his defeat of Farnan. While i think that age (and i presume his recorded lack of funds suggests drink might have also been a problem) is probably a telling factor, Lees was very dominant until finally losing to Jackson and from there, he could not maintain his best form, bt i wonder whether Tom Lees might sneak into the list. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/arti...sortby=dateAsc I am not really sure where i put my last posts intended for this topic, but here is one of them
John Henry picked up some good scalps, but he essentialy got beaten away in his ascent to a title shot, by Jimmy Braddock. Borderline case. Hamas was certainly going places, and picked up good scalps. Why did he have to take that rematch with Schmeling?

Just on Sullivan, I stumpled across a mall piece on Frank Herald, which caused me to look at Frank's CBZ record, and to be honest, he was a pretty good win for Sullivan, particularly the dominance of the win. I think that Sullivans dominance is something we havent really seen before and he is totally underated, althiugh in contrast, he did obviously not seem too keen to fight the best aussies like Farnan, Miller, Lees and Jackson, Slavin, Even Foley. It is a shame really although most of these came when Sullivan was past his best anyway.
That is how i remember it. It was a pretty clear cut win. I found the original report once. I am not sure but i have vague recollections of a report of a a third win as well, although dont trust me on that one as it is only vague. Either way, at this stage Farnana did assert dominance over Jackson. Although, can anyone recall whether these were gloved fights or not, because that might effect the question. I can remember that at least one of these fights did not take part in a ring as such.
They were glove fights, MOQ rules. Farnan dominated. However Peter Newton bested him in a three round affair and then there is the Lees contests-hard to rate him.
Lees was a world class fighter though, admittedly not as proven as one would like, but definitely world class, and Farnan had peeked by the time he met Lees. Do you think Lees might stand a chance at scraping into the list ahead of Miske? Newton i know little about and will have to do some searching in the coming days.
Here is a 47 rounder betwen Newton and White. Not much description though. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/18808514?searchTerm=peter newton prizefight&searchLimits= This article only has a slight mention of Peter Newrton, but the article is to good not to put a link here. I hope you all like it. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/63862484?searchTerm=peter newton prizefight&searchLimits=
here is another brief mention of Peter Newton. I hadnt realised that he was a promoter, and he was an ealy student of jem Mace by the sounds of things. Anyway, i havent time to read the full article but it looks an interesting one.
