Is there a case to be made for JMM having attained ATG status??

He beat a prime Orlando Salido, who just recently dethroned Juan Manuel Lopez for his championship-something many say was an accident waiting to happen, but that no other featherweight was able to do.

He made well-ranked Robbie Peden vomit from a body punch with only one loss prior and stopped him in the tenth in a lopsided fight.

He dominated Rocky Juarez, a highly ranked fighter who gave the undeniably great Barrera one of his tougher career challenges.

He decisively beat Victor Polo, a man who was only beat unanimously 3 times, twice by two other eventual Marquez victims-Medina and Derrick Gainer, all top-tier champion-level fighters of their division.

He was the first to stop Casamayor when he was at the top of the Lightweight Division. Past it, but still better than anyone else at the weight.

He should have been given the decision against World Champion Chris John, who today remains unbeaten.

He should have been given the decision against World Champion Freddie Norwood. Robbery.

He beat Marco Antonio Barrera who was past it but possessed the elite skills to give a great fight after he was making a good case for a comeback trail and Pacquiao rematch in the Juarez rematch.

He was the first to stop rising star and top-ranked Juan Diaz who fought the fight of his life in the best of shape against a visibly aged and out-sized Marquez.

He demolished top-ten ranked fighters Terdsak Jandeang and Jimrex Jaca.

He then stopped his Lightweight Championship mandatory, underrated contender Michael Katsidis, at a point in his career where he was more technically developed as a swarmer and spiritually driven by the death of his brother. Katsidis was good enough to do what a welterweight Pac could not, and Marquez outclassed him from that point on.

Without Pacquiao, he'd be an arguable All Time Great based on the consistency with which he's fought top-level fighters nearly always prime and on their A Game (something which, as great as Pacquiao and Floyd are, can't always be said), and on top of it all half of these wins came years past his physical prime and past his best natural weight.

His fights with Pacquiao are just validation that his career is an embodiment of underrated but consistently proven technical greatness. 3 versions of Pacquiao, and he arguably beat them all. Even if you had him losing the first two, he just beat him at a point in Pacquiao's career when he seemed invincible. If you can't concede he was the better man in the ring that Saturday night, then your bias speaks for itself.

Juan Manuel Marquez is no Iran Barkley. Juan Manuel Marquez is a Great fighter. He belongs up there with the legends of yesterday for all he's given throughout his time in the sport.

    Bogotazo one of the best!

Marquez was an ATG before Saturday... that day just sealed the deal for everyone.

    Yes

    BECAUSE

everyone before the fight said he would be if he managed to beat Pacquiao. And over 90% of people think he did beat Pacquiao. Just like how over 90% of people thought Lara beat Williams. The fight is and always will be treated as a Lara victory, as it should. Therefore, Pac/JMM III should and always should be treated as a JMM victory. Williams' win against Lara dropped him in the ratings hardcore. Not saying the opponent quality was the same or the score differential the same either, but the same standard needs to be applied, folks.
