I've always wondered this about many fighters. Who do they not jab more? It's the most fundamental thing in boxing. Jab to momentarily blind your opponent and follow with the power shots. Now i understand that against limited fighters, you can get away without jabbing. But against a super skilled counter puncher like JMM, you can't just throw power shots from distance and expect to land much. You have to jab to close the distance. I don't know if it's on Roach or what but am i being out of line here? Is anyone going to deny that if Pac used the jab intelligently in this fight that he would've had a much better shot of closing the distance without being countered and landing some big shots? How is intelligently utilizing the jab ever a bad thing? Thoughts?
F*cksake here we go again.... It wasn't because Manny wasn't trying to jab, he couldn't! It was JMM's footwork moving out of distance meant Manny couldn't get the jabs off. This was because of JMM's skill, it has nothing to do with Manny not using his jab
I don't mean to get inside JMM's chest for in-fighting but to get within firing range. Pac struggled to even get within firing range. Most of his attempts to get his shots off were lunging attempts which kept him off balanced and open to counters. A jab doesn't expose you as much and you still have your defense and feet under you and it also forces your opponent to cover and at the same time, allowing you to close the distance.
Yeah, Pac looked rushed and sloppy. He's not too cerebral coming forward. Even somebody like Cotto knows how to jab to close the distance and get into range. It's such an important thing to have, including the proper footwork to execute it...it's astonishing how Pacquiao hasn't the slightest clue.
your typical southpaw is usually trained to be left hand happy it's much easier to land the str8 left than the right jab because the majority of your opponents are orthodox fighters, so their lead hand is often in the way of your jab landing it's not like two orthodox fighters boxing where there's a clear opening for the jab with all that being said emmanuel is a limited fighter with a toy jab. I wouldn't call his build the ideal build for jab artistry either
emmanuel's a southpaw who needs to use his str8 left to make way in for him. His jabs are mainly used in attempt to get his str8 left to land.
And which begs the question. Is this Roach's fault for not stressing the most basic fundamental in boxing, the use of a good jab? Pac just simply couldn't get in-range to get his shots off. JMM would just back off and pick Pac apart. A jab would've done a lot of good IMO.
Boxers don't jab as much because of counters. And Marquez is one of the best counterpucnchers in boxing. If Pacquiao used his jab more he would have gotten countered more, with either a left hook to the head or body.
he throws the feint alot instead of the full on jab he hopes that his feints will open up the opponent to his straight left or a combo
