Off at a tangent slightly but this is quite an interesting article about the Margo - Pac fight http://www.aolnews.com/2010/11/16/doctor-manny-pacquiao-antonio-margarito-should-have-been-stoppe/
Horrifying stuff. Also this about Garcia: I don't see how Margo's eye can't be ruined. It looks ruined even on TV and he's always got sunglasses on when there are bright lights.
If Cotto throws that world class left hook to that eye this ain't gonna last long. I can't see it holding up for 12 rounds it will turn to a mess within first 4 rounds..
Both the Pacquiao and Clottey fights took place post Margarito so the damage was already done. In the first fight for the first 5 or 6 rounds Margarito could not lay a glove on Cotto who was fighting the perfect fight. In the space of about two/three rounds after that he started to resemble someone who has been in a high speed car accident. Now Margarito would seem to be a decent pucher but as said previously by FLEA he mostly throws arm punches that wear you down over the course of a fight. It seems strange for him to do this much damage to Cotto in such a short space of time. I don't buy into the Cotto was tired argument either it was being fought at a fair tempo but Miguel was boxing quite comfortabley with in himself for the first half of the fight. It was only when Margarito started to find his range that the fight turned and quickly. Don't get me wrong Cotto will always struggle down the stretch against Margarito as he starts to find him rhythm and this fight will be no different. It was clear in the first meeting that Cotto doesn't have the power to keep Antonio at bay for a full twelve rounds. So unless the beating Margarito took against Pacquiao has taken to much out of him, I think it is going to be a close one again. Cotto must start fast and take the early part of the fight again and hope he can hold on through the championship rounds.
Cotto admitted he ran out of gas and got his tactics wrong. It was very reminiscent of how he fought as an amateur, moving around so much. If he’d stood his ground early he’d have had more success. Also, I’m pretty sure his nose got broken in the second round – that will have played a part in his fade. I’m just saying it was a number of factors that led to the loss, including Margo’s hands of plaster.
Do you not think by standing his ground earlier the fight would have been over quicker. He boxed beautifully in the early rounds IMO. Wasn't aware he broke his nose, as you say it would of played a major part in him slowing down. :good
