:-( No just no! Even the most ardent McEwan fan or most biased Scotsman would have been able to give McEwan a round. He won no rounds on my card before the stoppage.
Craig was truely awful when you consider the level of ability he has, and also the level of opponent. Maybe Craig was trying just to see himself through the 12 rounds, I dont know but his tempo was poor, timing and distance both way off, and to be honest looked little more like a journeyman in there. Quillan isnt anything at all, and for him to dominate every minute of a poor fight, shows where Craigs at. He needs a trainer to get him into top shape, to give him lots of 1-1 attention, and to work harder at his fitness. If that doesnt happen, its a career destined for nowhere.
Quillin is not 'nothing at all' he's a solid prospect, certainly moresothan McEwan. Whilst nothing special as a fighter, Brinkley fared less well with Quillin than he did Bute. Or, was stopped quicker anyway ;-) I thought it was a bad fight for McEwan from the get-go, as did most. It was a terrible, shockingly bad stoppage though.
I agree with your point about the stoppage, and yes Quillin is a prospect, but thats all. Id fancy both Macklin and Barker to beat him, and with the ability Craig had, he should be talked about as a better fighter than those two.
I think most agree that it was not a vintage performance from McEwan and maybe he just took it for the money . now maybe in hindsight it will work out for him as after that performance they will que up to fight him so may end up getting a shot of a title fight but only time will tell . now I agree that on the night he was will beaten but i think flea man was correct that Quillin was nothing special and i hope Craig shorts himself out
