I understand what you're saying but there is Ward, still undefeated, who has, at most, just 2 more steps of becoming undisputed (Froch & ?Dirrell?), without comparing him to Calzaghe just yet. But yes, he'll never be undisputed in my eyes. I don't know if that will be the same for the media or for the majority of boxing fans. On the other hand, Bute will never become undisputed as he has too many steps to take to do that. By the time Ward, Froch and Kessler decide he is worthy of a challenge Bute may be brushing his white beard while playing in the garden with his grandsons.
If you look for the original source of the info, his interview, Froch states that by beating Ward he will become undisputed at 168. You and other people on forums that support his point of view use his resumee, while bashing his opponets resumees, as an argument for his claims. IMO the resume argument does not stand because this has nothing to do with being undisputed. This argument may be brought if you're talking about entering HOF, P4P top etc.. It has nothing to do with claiming supremacy in a division where other top fighters are considered a threat.
It wasnt an attack. Im a Kessler fan also. Ive seen numerous "debates" in here about who ducks who and who's afraid of who...Sounded to me like you hinted that Bute made a mocking offer to Kessler that he knew Kessler wouldnt take (sorry if that wasnt the case). I wanted to see a Kessler - Bute match very much but i dont feel it was Bute's fault for that not happening. So youre telling me a Stieglitz - Kessler generates more money than a Kessler - Bute match in Canada? Define reasonable offer...What would a reasonable offer look like? Everyone (who's not biased) is aware of Bute's skills. He made people think Johnson was an amateur (washed up). We wanna see them applied against the best.
3 million sounds like a lot more than I heard, so I think a source is justified. If 3 million was offered I find it hard to say that Kessler was lowballed.
I don't know if it generates more money all in all but Kessler makes a lot more money fighting Stieglitz than what Butes handlers were willing to pay him. Sauerland pays him 2 million Euros out according to the press for that fight with Stieglitz.. thats a reasonable purse for Kessler. And a $750k guarantee (-30% Sauerland, -10 Trainer, -camp, sparring etc) that Butes handlers offered Kessler according to the press is not a reasonable purse. Keep in mind they offered twice as much to Pavlik, a $1.35 million guarantee. So it was a joke no more less.. Butes handlers might not have that much confidence in him than his fans have..
They ask him questions, he answers them. I hope one of them get to fight Bute, would be shitty for boxing if they don't. Hopefully both.
Recent news at the scene. Jean Bedard came back with a response to Froch's statement. This is getting interesting .
If Ward and Froch will duck Bute I think after his last fight with Showtime probably Dirrell in April(Kessler isnt available also),he will go to HBO and fight at 175 DAWSON,Cloud,Pascal. And then Ward and Froch will beg for a fight with Bute.
Obviously i dont posses facts.I, myself dont think 3 million were offered but its hard to believe they made an offer just to waste everyone's time. See, you said yourself that you HEARD about a certain ammount. Untill we know specific details, we're only left with guesses. I still think that if Kessler wanted that fight made, they would have reached a compromise. 1. I think it does. 2. What press? Has anyone released actual numbers, not guesses? If so i'd be curious in seeing a link. 3. No confidence? Im, curious now. What is your opinion on Bute's skills? In my opinion (unbiased i'd like to think) his skills advertise him to be the nr 1 boxer at 168 even tho he has yet to fight the best. FWIW im romanian just so we keep things fair, but ive always tried to see things from a boxing fan's point of view.
If you don't believe the offer was 3M then you shouldn't run with it. And there's plenty of reason to believe they made a bogus offer. Making a bogus offer allows them to keep calling Bute the most avoided man on the planet.
HBO wants Bute really bad so if the fight with the S6 winner doesn't materialize then Showtime can suck it. Its not like Ward is such a big draw anyway and all his fights are messy non-stop clinches Hopkins-like. We all know how many ppv Dawson vs Hopkins sell...Hahaha!
Only one problem here. Bute still has 1 more fight with Showtime, according to the contract he signed. Who will it be? What other fighter can Showtime bring to the table? Dirrell is out of the question, believe me. I'm affraid Bute's next fight will be with a top 10-20 just to stay active, a shitty mandatory at the end of 2012 and his contractual one will take place at the beginning of 2013 with a so-so opponent :?.
