This makes sense, I looked up the stats for fights I & II. Pac threw 640 and 610 punches, respectively. His output last weekend was 580. Compensating for the fact that those were at 128/135 lbs, 580 punches is actually pretty much what you'd expect at 144lbs.

So, based on statistics, his punch output wasn't abnormal - taking into account his opponent and weight.

Still, despite all this, I thought he looked inactive and less effective than what I remember from their second meeting. Which, admittedly, I haven't seen since 2009.

Another interesting observation: if you remove the knockdowns from their first two fights, the scoring would be rather similar to this one, I think.

I also didn't understand why Pac was reluctant during the opening rounds, while history has proven those were his best moments against Marquez. Overconfidence..

Good card, I watched with Russian commentary & scored the fight, re-watching 3 rds twice because they were so difficult to score, the rds I had to re-watch twice were 6, 9 & 11 (I think)

    My card was.....
    1. JMM
    2. JMM
    3. Pac
    4. JMM
    5. JMM
    6. JMM
    7. JMM
    8. JMM
    9. JMM
    10. JMM
    11. Even
    12. Pac

    9-2-1 Marquez

Ps. I really couldn`t split them in the last rd either so I gave it to Pac because I couldn`t be arsed re-watching it & my card looked very one sided which I didn`t expect tbh... the 1st time I watched the fight without scoring rd by rd with HBO (biased *******s) commentary I thought it looked a 50/50 fight, it just shows what a difference muted/foreign language makes when scoring a fight.

Have to add my name to the very small Pacquiao won list, I had it 115-114. I hope it can at least be agreed that it was too close for these ridiculous cries of robbery to be taken seriously.

This was not a fight to be scored on the basis of clean, effective punching, because there was barely any. They were equally as poor in that respect. So you look to things like ring generalship and I saw Pacquaio fighting the fight where he wanted to. In the later rounds there were at least hree or four occasions where his footwork left Marquez chasing shadows. Can Marquez seriously expect to go to Vegas and fight a champ who is looking at one of the biggest fights ever in May, go backwards for 90% of the fight, land nothing of significance and get a decision? Wishful thinking.

Close? Of course. But in the rounds where nothing of note was landed (that'll be most rounds then), Pacquiao took several on the other scoring criteria, which any keen boxing fan should be able to recite by heart.

Too many people are scoring this fight heavily for Marquez on the basis that A) He did better than expected and B) He landed the best punch of the round more often than Pacquaio did.

I see 115-113, 114-114 or 113-115 or variations of with an even round, but anything else does not reflect a razor thin but really pretty uneventful contest.

I had 9-2-1 JMM & also thought Pacquiao never won 1 single clear round.

    Clearly, Marquez won every round.

Just like Jimmy Young did against Ali and Norton.

I'm a Pac fan and I had it at best at a draw for him, I could see the 7-5 for JMM. But like I said, JMM did not really do much for these kinds of big close fights to get the decision. A Pac loss would have been a big catastrophy, business wise. The only way JMM would have won that fight was by KO or a clear convincing unanimous decision.

When I watched it live on PPV.. I scored it 116-112 for pac. When I watched it again and put the HBO team on mute, I scored it 115-113 for Pac! Very close fight..

I think Bob Arum clearly won the fight.

NOTICE HOW YOU CAN'T SEE CHEATING MARQUEZ'S FEET IN ANY OF THESE GIFS!!! This is sarcasm, though I realize many Pacquiao fans are beyond parody at this point.

I know, I see everyone most of these guys scoring the fight even gave Marquez the minute in between rds. No way the fight was a robbery with all of these close rds I think it boils down to everyone expecting a blow-out...I did not see a blow out but I thought Pac would be more dominant based off Floyd/Marquez but when I seen Marquez built and strong upper-body and I said he looks like the bigger guy but I gave Pac the edge in a close fight with close rds.
