Not yet, always has, always will stuggle w/ marquez, but i still put him againest bradley, rios, guys like that. hes still a top fighter in my eyes.
of course he was past prime, if he was still in his prime then thats a ****ing long prime. Not taking away from jmm who was more past prime than him. But if guys like cotto for example got beat up in one fight is past prime already then he is already past prime. He had wars with barrera and marquez, hatton got beat up by may in one fight and he was already past prime. Still good though
Hard to say. One opponent was running from his life, and the other was a stylistic nightmare that made him look ordinary in two previous outtings, too.
Of course he's slipping out of his prime, long career, 50+ fights and so on. It doesn't mean he can't win big fights still. His style when he was a beast was a young mans style of energy and speed, that doesn't seem to be there as much anymore but in spurts. I don't favor his chances against a better skilled boxer like Floyd, but most anybody else around that weight he should be able to handle still.
I believe Pac has definitely lost some speed, power and stamina since 2008-2009 and before. He doesn't set the same kind of pace or sustain it any more, this has been clear from his last 2 fights. I think he is past his best now, but I still think he'd have enough to whip Khan or Bradley. Marquez, Mayweather and Martinez are the only guys out there to test even a fading Pacquiao.
Pacquiao is still very much in his prime, stop reaching for **** now, Pac fans. He looked bad vs Mosely because Mosely used a bit of movement & never tried to walk thru Pac like every opponent since Diaz... his mistake was fighting to survive & neglecting offence.... Marquez came with defense AND offence, he made Pacquiao box with him & outboxed him.
Yeah, he is past his prime and has been made to look even worse by fighting Marquez, his Sandy Saddler, and Mosley, who had no intention of fighting. Pacquiao's foot speed, movement, accuracy, hand speed and power aren't as impressive as they were in 2008.
Probably, although I thought he looked exceptionally fast of hand and foot in the early going. Visibly better than he did against Mosley, Clottey, and Margarito I thought. With that said, I've never thought he looked nearly as formidable of a physical force as he did at the lighter weight classes as a welterweight.
His speed, power & reflexes look the exact same to me, it was the style Mosely & Marquez used that stopped Pac from looking his best, its not rocket science, put Pac in with Margarito or Cotto again & he will magically be back to his best, leg cramps all gone. Ps. did you find time to score the JMM-Pac fight & if so, what was your card, Popkins ?
I don't understand why people keep repeating this line about movement being the issue. Cotto moved far, far better than Mosley did.
Even against Margarito, he didn't look as quick as he did in 2009 and especially before that. There were times he looked plodding in that fight. He's definitely slowed down a bit, which hurts him a lot more than it does fighters like Floyd Mayweather or Bernard Hopkins. You can tell there's been some decline even by watching his mitt work now and comparing it to years past.
I disagree. I strongly believe I have watched Pacquiao fights a lot more than you have, and it is very clear to me he is not as fast as he was, he doesn't set as fast a pace anymore, and he most certainly doesn't maintain that pace anymore. No I still haven't scored it, having an insanely busy week. Will try to do so tonight. I am looking forward to posting a full card with round-by-round commentary and minute-by-minute notes of significant punches landed, much like I did for Hopkins-Calzaghe many moons ago.
Yeah, I agree. I think there's a clear difference between Pacquiao from the Cotto and Margarito fights. His absolute peak was from Diaz to Cotto, in my opinion. He showed weaknesses against Clottey and lacked sparked, then looked poorer against Margarito, was even worse against Mosley and then we all saw what happened with Marquez. There has been a clear and steady decline.
Maybe not. He has one bad night, and some think he's slipsliding away. On the other had, he didn't look good against Mosley. Well I guess fighting running opponents doesn't make you look good. If he shows the same characteristics in his next fight, then maybe he's really past his prime.
