Is Floyd a much better boxer now than he was 10 years ago?

The first time I have ever seen Floyd in the ring it was his fight vs Jesus Chaves.

Back then I was told that Floyd is skilled and fast, but after I saw his fight against limited and predictable Chaves, I wasn't impressed at all. While being really fast, overall he was NOT even close to the p4p king Roy Jones Jr, and Mosley impressed me much more than Floyd at that time, too.

Next his fight was against Castillo, who wasn't top-10 p4p fighter. Once again, Floyd didn't impress me. However, he won the fight by controversial decision (many people think he lost). Later was a rematch which Floyd won close but clear, and a fight against B-level Victor Sosa - incredibly boring and uneventful fight.

I can't remember if Floyd was considered as a top-5 p4p fighter back then, but he certainly wasn't in the top-3 on any list.

As of today, the situation is completely different. Floyd is either #1 or #2 on any p4p list. So what has changed?

It's his boxing skills. While he is still fast, he is smarter, more confident in the ring, avoids or blocks opponents' punches better and is much more experienced nowdays.

Overall, Floyd Mayweather is clearly better boxer now than he was 10 years ago.

PS: Don't turn it to another 10,000,000 Pac vs Floyd thread, please! :)

Funny how you conveniently missed his complete domination of Angel manfredy, Genero hernandez and chico corales in your rant.

As I said, I haven't seen his earlier fights.
Those wins are very good, but his wins over Oscar and Shane are more impressive for me.

To be honest, Manfredy is B-level fighter who never won the title and was also brutally destroyed in 3 rds by Corrales. Yes he beat Gatti, but that doesn't mean much.

He's physically much stronger and doesn't give up as much ground. But he was more spectacular in the lower weights.

He was drained against Chavez and injured against a much bigger Castillo. Both of them also crowded him, Chavez through 100punches a round and Castillo pressured and was very good
