    There's one guy (forgot who) that fought for the HW championship in his 1st pro fight... He was the Olympic gold medalist though.

    Yeah I heard about Ledon. He was a great amateur but came too late. Think he gave Garcia a real tough time would love to c that fight

    Leon spinks fought Ali in only his 8th fight for the heavyweight title but I've never heard of someone in their second fight challenging for the world title

    Pete Rademacher fought Floyd Patterson for the heavyweight championship in his pro debut. And there was a Thai guy (can't remember who right now) who actually won the title in his fourth pro fight. About a dozen or so Thai fighters have won titles within their first 10 bouts, and it's not like those guys have tons of amateur experience (although many of them converted from Muay Thai). Recently, Kazuto Ioka won the title over a pretty decent titlist in only his 7th.

    pete rademacher was his name. and if i remember correctly some scottish guy won a world title in like 8 fights his name evades me now i think its benny something

    Three boxers have fought for the world title on their pro debut - Jack Skelly was beaten of George Dixon way back in the day, Peter Rademacher was beaten of Floyd Patterson and the most recent was Rafael Lovera who was beaten by Luis Estaba for the vacant flyweight title.

    No surprise but all were knocked out.

    Other quick titlists I can think of are this year Ioka won the title in his sixth bout and Paul weir also won a world title in his sixth bout although Im not sure the WBO was recognized back in 1993. As already mentioned Le4on Spinks won the title in his seventh fight.

    Thanks for the info, did he win it?

    Ledón came from Cuba in a raft with his cousin ( Ivan Ledón, also a boxer ) and Ramon Garbey ( former pro-boxer ). So I really think he got off the raft, sparred for a couple of weeks and made his debut. Then after just 1 fight fought Robert Garcia, the World Champion!

    Imagine if Ledón who was already 35 years old, hardly trained nor prepared and still gave Garcia a real tough time. This shows the high level that the Cubans bring from the amateurs.
