Has Mayweather successfully waited out Pacquiao's peak, like SRL did with Hagler?

Popkins is right about age. You're more likely to decline quicker with a more active, high energy style like Pacquiao, who takes a lot more punishment than Mayweather.

I don't think he's declined much though. They're both not at their peaks physically (that's part of being in your 30s), but much of Pacquiao's struggle with Marquez is because Marquez's style always troubles Manny.

    Marquez gives Pacquiao hell in 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, etc....

Even Floyd vs Baldmori vs current Floyd...He's not in his prime anymore.

Don't start that ****. Your ruse is if/when Mayweather and Peduiao fight, and Mayweather beats Peduiao's ass, Mayweather's victory isn't solid because Peduiao wasn't in his prime. Newsflash *******: If they do fight, Mayweather won't be in his prime either. You are manufacturing excuses to prepare for an inevitable Peduiao defeat. I guess it's easier for you to make excuses now so that the reality of Peduiao's beatdown won't be so devastating.

You do know that Pacquiao isnt the only one slowing down, right? I agree with you, age isnt the biggest factor, while it is still a factor. What you are overlooking is Mayweather is slowing down himself, not just Pacquiao. It's sad that Floyd is really in a lose - lose situation. All of a sudden, Pac has slowed down. How so, because he arguably lost to Marquez for the 3rd time? That doesnt mean he's slowing down, that just means he was never as good as people made him out to be in the first place. Why are you acting like you didnt know Pac has trouble with counter punchers? There wasnt anything different about Pacquiao from before, he just had a better opponent in the ring this time around than in the past. Pac's style is better suited for Cotto, Hatton, Margarito, Clottey, and Ghost version of ODLH. Marquez's style of fighting and his ability to use Pac's aggression in his favor is the reason why Pac looked average. It's the same reason why Floyd will tax that ass, too:deal

I have to say no on this one because if Pac really wanted this fight sooner. He would have taken it during the first negotiation instead of prolonging it by not agreeing to random blood work.

Pac fan here. Long time lurker

Never thought I would say this but Floyd beats him fair and square. There isn't really any excuse you could use to justify the future loss to Floyd. Floyd is older and pacman's entire camp thought he was at the top of his game this training camp. Turns out that Pacquiao's great training camp wasn't enough to put to rest an old rivalry with a 38 yr old marquez. Just seeing how nervous and scared pacquiao was between rounds just killed my faith in him. If he had any chance at beating floyd it would because he is relentless and fearless and would continue to come at floyd without being frustrated and discouraged like many others who fought floyd. This fight showed that floyd will end pacquiao with nothing special but by just being floyd.

And I don't know why people keep talking about pacquiao slowing down. I thought he looked pretty dang fast. His mentality wasn't the same tho. I can only hope that this is a reality check for him and this ends similiar to rocky 3.

Now if Floyd doesn't press on to fight pac and call him out then I'm going to be confused as fk.

Floyd / Pac is still a very viable fight, but has slightly less glamour than it had a week ago.

IMO, Floyd was always the slicker, more skilled boxer by a narrow margin, but Pac was in his head, hence the completely unfounded , bogus demands around PED testing. He ducked Pac, plain and simple, because he feared him.

Now, he has seen part 3 of the trilogy and will probably be emboldened, and somewhat more confidant. He'll still demand PED tests, but only to save face. He can scarcely backtrack.

If Pac/JMM 3 had happened after Pac/Hatto, or even Pac/Cotto, there would never have been any (laughable) Mayweather crusade to clean up the sport.

And IMO, if Pac/JMM 3 had happened after Cotto, the result would always have been similar. Marquez has certain skills that will always puzzle Pac. If there's a fourth Pac/Marquez bout, Pac's best strategy might be to cut buck on the boxing and step up on the brawling. His chin is slightly better than Marquez's and his power is significantly greater. He could well KO the Mexican if it came to prolonged toe-to-toe action.

Pac/ Mayweather is therefore, not too much different a proposition than it has been for a while, except that Mayweather has seen something that will steady his nerves and give him a set.

He would be a clear favourite at the moment, and it's the biggest fight out there for either man.

Win or lose there, Pac/JMM would still be a good match-up next Autumn.

The other scenario might be to have Pac face JMM again in the Spring (with Floyd/Bradley or Floyd /Khan around the same time and have the final confrontation (Pac/Floyd) in the Autumn. The risk there is that JMM might take a lot of the shine off that match-up by beating Pac.

Whatever happens, the Pac fight is now more palatable for Floyd, but more for psychological reasons than physical changes.

    Idiot.

He never feared Pac, lol, it is the other way around.

    Proof ?

JMM x 4 now in the making.

FMJ beats Pac at ANY time at ANY weight. The skill and Ring IQ disparity are mind boggling. He does not even have a punchers chance........his power at WW is average at best.

The TS is generally a good poster, but has a horrible agenda when it comes to Pac. And even gets all upset and bickers with other posters who disagrees with him.

Everyman and his dog now know its team Pac that was/is holding up this fight. They ran from the first negotiations to fight Clottey for ****'s sake, while Floyd went off and fought the next best guy available.

So to answer the thread, no. Team Pac has never wanted to fight Mayweather.

If divine intervention prevails, or if Arum decides to cash in on his cash cow, and this fight is made - I bet this is ONE of the many excuses that will be used.

Floyd will get no credit, as usual.

Remember when there was a poll where like 90% of like 300 voters said that Floyd would never fight Shane (who was coming off his second best win of his career, the biggest beatdown of Marg's career), and then Floyd went on to fight him and dominate him.

Any credit? No, not from the fans of a boxer (but yes from boxing fans).

Nope, if Pac said the hell with it and took the blood test, the fight would have happened already. Pac looked bad because he didn't fight a come foward fighter. He fought a counter puncher boxer who knows him pretty well.

I think that will be the #1 excuse why Mayweather beat Pac lol....he waited til Pac got old and out of his prime to fight him :-(
