Billy Dib promises KO in title defence

AUSTRALIA'S IBF featherweight boxing world champion Billy Dib will chase a knockout and try to punch a hole in the unbeaten record of Italian Alberto Servidei in his first title defence on November 19.

Ranked eighth by the IBF, Servidei has held Italian, European and IBF Inter-Continental featherweight titles.

The fight at Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre represents the first professional bout outside Italy for 36-year-old Servidei (31-0-2, 7 KOs).

"He's been comfortable fighting in his own backyard and now it's time for him to step out of his comfort zone,'' Dib said.

"The thing for me that intrigues me about this fight, and is so exciting, is he is undefeated and this is my opportunity to beat an undefeated fighter.

"Our plan is to make it a rough and tough fight. It's going to be an amazing performance.

"I'm expecting to put on a great performance for the Australian public, but I do have one thing on my mind and that's going out there and knocking him out.''

Dib has an 11-1 record against southpaws as a professional, with the one defeat coming against the then WBO featherweight champion Steven Luevano three years ago.

Dib, 26, (32-1, 19 KOs) has been sparring with classy Australian southpaw Paul Fleming (11-0-1, 8 KOs), who is likely to appear on the November 19 undercard.

With negotiations already underway for a mid-2012 mega-fight against longstanding featherweight supremo Chris John, Dib and his team are keen for him to produce a spectacular performance against Servidei (31-0-2, 7 KOs).

Dib, 26, declared his intention to produce a more aggressive style than the measured counter-punching which earned him the title a few months ago in a points win over Mexican Jorge Lacierva.

"He (Servidei) is a counterpuncher, we can't have two counterpunchers in there," Dib said.

"We need one aggressive guy and I'm going to be that.

"It's a role reversal. Last fight, Lacierva played that role of being aggressive, I played the counterpuncher role, now we're flipping the role.

At yesterday's press conference, Dib told Servidei his world title dream would come crashing down.

Servidei, who hasn't fought outside Italy since turning professional 12 years ago, understandably had a different perspective.

"I don't like to say before the fight, how it will be, but I won't be like that," Servidei said through a interpreter.

Dib had a brief break from sparring around a month ago due to an elbow injury, but was now fully fit, according to trainer Billy Hussein.

Watch Dib win the title, you will go to sleep! he ran like a cat all night and it was one of the most boring, pathedic cheating fights ive ever seen. Its why they havent put the fight up in full on youtube and just shown highlights, of which is pretty much all he did the entire 12 rounds lol.. i will eventually be throwing the full fight on youtube i just have to wait until this fight is over. Perhaps LEON in all his wisdom would throw it up>?

I was just offered free tickets by Billy's brother but wont be able to make it to sydney on such short notice, would have been nice though....

It tripped me out, i was doing a job for a fella who's computer was running slow and he had last name Dib, asked if he was any relation to Billy and turns out it's his older brother.

we had a long chat and I told him I boxed with Billy in the Am's and he said he would hook me up with some freebies if i wanted to come, but i have a wedding on this weekend.
