The series of fights between Pacquiao and Marquez does not hurt Pacquiao's legacy

I've a read a few mindless posts in the last week about how the Marquez fights, in particular the last, taints Pacquiao's legacy. This is just a short sighted opinion, based on how precious wins and losses have become in modern day boxing. In the grand scheme of things, people will see Marquez as a greatly underrated fighter who simply had Pacquiao's number stylistically. Does that mean that Pacquiao will suffer from that? I don't think it does, no.

Pacquiao and Marquez will always be linked together and joined by two other fighters, Morales and Barrera. They are all interlinked in one way or another. Pacquiao is the greatest of all these and Marquez will go down as the lowest ranked of the four, despite the results of the Pacquiao/Marquez trilogy. I think it boosts Marquez, and closes the gap between him and the other two Mexicans, but I don't think it hurts Pacquiao.

Pacquiao found his 'Sandy Saddler' when he first stepped into the ring with Marquez. A stylistic nightmare, who would always give Pacquiao problems. However, just like Willie Pep, it doesn't hurt him to have a thorn in his side.

 

Marquez is your run-of-the mill technician which seems to be so rare these days. no comparison to Saddler whatsoever

it proves what an overrated fighter Pacquiao is.

 

I feel the same way, the overall rating of the mini fab 4 of the 00's goes up because of the result, its just that the current view of pac suffers but in the long run it wont hurt his legacy much I think, he has accomplished a lot and has a great resume, no need for it to be destroyed by having tough fights with a guy that matches up with him so well because of styles.

Agreed. Marquez is good but nowhere near the level the thread starter believes. Marquez is still the same guy who struggled with Diaz and got dropped by katsidas.

pacs legacy has been hurt BADLY by all of this, the excuses to not take tests, fighting past prime fighters, now avoiding Floyd worse than ever and even the handwraps stuff will come more into light all these things has hurt mannys legacy deeply...

Marquez winning the Trilogy seems to be what manny is known for now days..

manny's legacy is all but done sadly...

 

my point is that it's less about the stylistic match-up and more about Pacquiao's ability to deal with well-schooled fighters

The Marquez fights all highlight the flaws in Pacquaio, people have spent the last few years touting his improvements and crediting the work he has done with Roach, yet when faced with adversity for the first time in several fights, he did not react well.

 

Its just styles.

Don't know why people are shocked about this third fight, it was nothing but an extension of their first two bouts.

 

It improves his legacy. Having a tough opponent that makes you dig deep is always great for a fighter's legacy.
