Let's be honest, it was strange to think that the man who looked so, so beating Horace Shufford, was four months away from beating the fighter who some of us figured was the man to dethrone the Marvelous One...:scaredas:

 

Very true, and he had the balls to stick up for his principles, and tell the WBA what they could do with their belt, when he was asked to fight a South African in the Gleneagles agreement era... Unlike some of us, eh Frank...

 

Funny thing is when discussing Honeyghan you can always tell when someone is going off Boxrec for their opinions when they rate the Shufford win because he was the WBC number 1 ranked fighter at the time.

He was number 1 because every bugger else in the division had either lost to Curry, lost to McCrory, or lost to both. Shufford got to number 1 by sitting tight and doing nothing! Great move by Duff to fetch him over here to get beat up by Honey!

 

Let's be charitable, I think anyone who beat Tomas Negro Garcia (my new favourite name in boxing, sorry lucky Sambo and Hitler the Killer), deserves a #1 WBC ranking. (Guess what I have just been looking at!:hey). What's more, I am pretty sure Duff spun Shufford as unbeaten going into the Honeyghan fight.

Billy Schwer had a traditional approach to his title shots, just didn't get there.

 

Duke was good early, thus he bypassed an Area and Commonwealth crown.

 

I think Hatton is only missing the Euro....didn't Witter have it at the time?;-)

 

The sad thing is Damgaard, Urkal or Branco would of been as good a win as any Hatton had pre Tszyu.

Anyone who beat a German on points in Germany, deserves an honorary Area title, to make the classic collection, IMO.

 

Then on other hand you have Robin Reid who never fought for a single title before fighting and beating Nardiello.
