Looks like this fight is happening in February. Arce has vacated the belt he won against Vazquez Jr to move down to bantam allowing Donaire to move up and take on Vazquez Jr for the vacant title. A little bit underwhelming for me, I was hoping for someone like Nishioka or maybe hang around bantam a bit longer for the winner of Mares/Agbeko II. On the plus side Donaire's people are saying they want him out 4 times next year so hopefully he gets some good fights and build a bit of momentum.
It's cos Vazquez hasn't really beat anyone since losing to Arce and you've got all this hype about Donaire and the Narvaez fight was a bit **** so was hoping for Nishioka next.
Vasquez is game and will at least give Donaire a good go. Not the best fight but still a pretty good one.
Yeah, read about this earlier. In an ideal world he'd be sticking around to face Agbekohey), but making the weight coupled with the fact he doesn't want to wait around and stall his career anymore than it already has been are probably factors too prevalent to ignore at this stage. I've been firmly on the WV2 train since the beginning, so it's a shame that his complacency against Arce has led him to this scenario, where he's basically being utilised to bed Top Rank's next ''star'' into the division before he takes on bigger and better foes. Still on that train though, I believe he'd trounce Arce in a rematch, where he'd go in actually knowing that getting into a war is idiotic. He's got all the basics nailed down and is still improving, I still had high hopes for him. Though this could be his undoing, Donaire really is the truth. I can't see it going too well for WV2, I was hoping for a kind of fringe world level guy before jumping back in with the best, not this, which, while a decent fight on paper, will be a beatdown. I suppose consolation can be taken from the fact that it'll leave us one step closer to seeing Donaire decimate Nishioka.
 Not really a fight I'd want to see for Vasquez Jr, especially at this stage of his career. I'd have pursued an Arce rematch as soon as possible after the 1st fight because I'm 100% sure he'd have completed the job 2nd time around. But even with Arce looking to go down to bantamweight, there's still better fights for him than this; it kind of has the look of him being made a scrifical lamb. He's too good for that IMO. I've actually said even after the Arce defeat that I could still see him being the future no.1 in the division. He's a skillful pressure fighter, similar to Montiel in that regard, and I would be very surprised if he didn't put up a much better effort than both Senchenko & el Cochulito did. I could see him picking up a few rounds working his way in behind his jab but in truth these type of opponents are the ones relishes so I can't look past him by late stoppage. For Donaire I suppose it's a good introduction to the division if he's looking at a Nishioka fight next. I'd have like to have seen that fight straight away but Vasquez will be a live, decent opponent for him and is an improvement on the speaculation of an Arce fight I suppose
I agree with Ishy. Its just another step sideways for Donaire. Whats annoying is that theres so many good fights out there for him Abner Mares Joseph Agbeko Vic Darchinyan Anselmo Moreno Toshiaki Nishioka
Well...he's only gotten in the ring once, and while it was against a cab driver he looked absolutely spectacular. I actually don't mind this match-up too much. Donaire is obviously the favorite, and probably a heavy one. It could still be worse.
You've changed your tune, Flea. The truth is there's really no one around these weights that has a big enough chance of beating Donaire.
Rigondeaux is the man with the best chance of beating Donaire imo. This isn't too bad a fight though.
