Agreed, or he could also retire now - though that's the least likely option.

The demand for the Mayweather fight might see it go ahead first, on the basis that Marquez would probably wait around for another crack afterwards, taking a tune-up in the meantime or going for a bauble at 140.

But if Manny suffers a bad defeat by Mayweather a Marquez fight would serve no purpose, and if Manny won.... it's either a rematch or retirement.

If he's gonna fight Marquez they may as well do it immediately. Lose and it's retirement, win and the Floyd fight will probably still be huge.

I wouldn't want to be the man making the decisions for any of those three to be honest.

 

I've said for a while Mayweather's waiting for him to decline, he's doing what many felt Leonard did with Hagler. Mayweather's looking for the time when odds stack in his favor.

I've also felt for a while as Spearmint says some of the fighters who've fought Pacquiao have been embarrassing in there approach but also the ones who came to win like Hatton,Cotto and Glass Eyed Tony have all played in Pac's plans at one point or another plus all having signs of wear and tear.

I haven't been impressed by Pacquiao for a while and was waiting for that type of performance. Nacho's comment about him being more refined thus being easier was spot on IMHO.

 

agree! good mayweather cant lose in this situation, if pacquaio takes the fight, mayweather probably wins as things stand, if he doesnt, people will forget mayweathers blatant ducking up to this point and pacquaio becomes the villain to an extent.

i agree the fact he's become more conventional is taking the edge off him a bit i feel when it comes to marquez, im sure its a plus in some respects but i feel that played into marquez's plans

 

The sad thing is, a Mayweather-Pacquaio fight just hasn't got the same appeal as it did a year or 2 ago for various reasons. The ship has sailed for me and we, as fans, are the main ones missing out.

If this fight is signed tomorrow I'll be excited, but I would always have the question of "what if this fight happened 2 years ago?"

Agree with this as well, I've been done with this fight for about a year now. It's lost it's appeal and the JMM fight hasn't helped it in my eyes.

 

When I saw the weigh-in for the Shane fight I said to myself that Manny is off the gear.

Look at Manny v Hatton or Cotto and there is a difference in size and muscularity compared to his last couple of fights.

Seems strange that Manny looking physically better in previous fights as the reports are that Manny never trained harder than for JMM 3.

 

I've never seen Manny looking as old as he did against JMM...

 

One of my favourite films is the 'prestige'. It's a movie in which there's a power struggle between two magicians who are jealous of eachother. Their jealously and dislike reaches so deep that they go to the ends of sabotaging one another's acts. When one does a successful act, the other becomes so obsessed with disclosing it and breaking his rivals code...it goes on until it becomes so extreme, that in the end they both become killers and ruin the game.

This is what's happening with Pacquiao/Mayweather. The battle for Prestige is becoming like that rivalry between those two magicians. They go on trying to better eachother against common opponents and PPV numbers, they try and stain the others reputation with accusations and innuendo.

In the end they will ruin eachother, because if they don't fight, all the tricks they've used will neither justify the means nor will it bring any prestige.

Good point. Because of his main attributes and what he relies on (athleticism, speed, legs) is the first things that leave a fighter, Pacquiao's 'slippage' is going to happen real sudden and a lot quicker then someone who's cerebral and defensively aware like Floyd, who could fight into his 40's.

This is what i think.

Yes i think Pacquiao was taking something fishy, but then again i think the majority of fighter's out there are on some type of substance. Reading that interview with JMM's new Strength coach what somebody posted in the General forum made me even more convinced.

The difference in Pacquiao now, to what he looked like in the Hatton/Cotto fight's is massive. He's still muscular but he doesn't look at thickly set, or as solid.

Obviously JMM's style made thing's difficult, but i am really starting to believe the stories about him coming off the Substances
