Turner looks to be strong with a decent jab although he looked 3 stone heavier than the lad and as to his conditioning it was a disgrace he ended up flaying around like a **** head outside a chipper,[/QUOTE] In all fairness I dont think he has been training with the LA Matadors so he probably wasnt prepared for 5 rounds and he looked bolloxed after 3 rounds, if he was fit he would have won handy imo and he impressed me in the first 3 hopefully he can lose a bit of the flab as he could be a decent heavyweight prospect for us as he is still only 20 and I reckon Sheehan will go pro after London .
Here is the link to McLoughlin and Turners fights - Skip to around 1 hour 16 for McLoughlin and 2 hours 15 for Turner [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J94PicrgHv0[/ame]
I know there are probably only a small few Cork lads on the thread (and ye might not even read the Evening Echo) but I'm just wondering have any of ye noticed the tool of a boxing correspondant. I'm not gonna name names (but i'd be fairly sure most on the thread know of him) cos i'm still not fully sure of the rules on this, but I know for a fact that he's one of the main writers for the iaba in general. It's gone beyond a joke at this stage!! The majority of boxing news he includes is a direct copy of what's on the news section of the iaba website, but tonight took the biscuit altogether. On one page in a small article he states that 5 cork boxers will be in this weekends intermediate quarter finals. 2 pages later in an article about Spike he decides to inform people that there are 6 Cork boxers in this weekends inter quarters! Why he was repeating the info I don't know, but it's very f**kin annoying! I've noticed **** like that a few times! I know ppl can make mistakes and whatever but I get the feeling that he's a chancer who takes advantage of the fact that most readers of the Echo won't be looking at the iaba website to notice the duplication of material! I imagine he's getting paid for it all the while!!
Bk, most of those are free press releases, printed as courtesy of the IABA. Papers get free boxing copy, association gets their publicity out. Though I can't see the Echo myself to state for sure, I imagine this is the case.
He's a joke but most of em are just sports writers trying to fill up space so they copy others stuff, obviously not counting the journo's who post here!
I would say its a case of the paper grabbing the free copy/stories sent out by the IABA. Never seen the Evening Echo myself-but even the nationals take IABA press releases. they are generally newsworthy
The same fella writes on local boxing too! Specific articles relating to Cork/Munster boxing leagues, etc. And I think he just doesn't know his boxing. The main thing that annoyed me this time was him stating on one page that cork had 5 boxers through to this weekend and then 2 pages later saying that there were six. Even if he got the numbers correct I don't see why there was a need to repeat the information in 2 articles on the same paper on the same day!! It's not the first time i've seen sumting like this by him either!
At least he is spreding the word of boxing, would you prefer if their was nothing at all about boxing like our Limerick Leader unless BigBang or Andy has a fight coming up!!

At times actually i'd prefer nothing at all than the stuff he writes!! It's not about being the best of a bad bunch. That's an outrageous statement you've made! "spread the word of boxing"...what's the point if the stuff aint accurate!! TBH it doesn't bother me one bit what's in the Limerick Leader, I just know that the Echo covered boxing well for years, and for some reason it seemed far more honest than nowadays. I know this particular writer has been there for a long while now so it's not a sudden change, but anytime I see an article by one of the other writers it seems far better! The Echo definitely has a few writers who know their boxing, I just can't understand why they are not utilised as much!
I hope you are not talking about who I think you are talking about! You better not be talking about who I think you are talking about! :smoke
