What a load of bollocks. Alvarez hasn't crossed over at all. He's a minor celebrity in Mexico and in US boxing circles. Most of the slagging he gets is down to his very carefully picked opposition. Haye was hugely popular until he started fannying about with Wlad while boring everyone once inside the ring. That's what turned everyone against him. Khan always got stick because his LW career was appalling, but most are fine with him now. It seems it's Khan's fan who have the biggest problem when not everyone worships him. Hatton always divided opinion. He had a polarising personality, but most people rated him as a fighter, just not his attempts to make out that Castillo was less than shot. Fury is ****.
The Arce card interests me more than this. And the Arce card is crap. If HBO were broadcasting Daniel Estrada(who isn't particularly good, just ridiculously fun to watch[his fight with Rivero should be unanimously known as 2010's FOTY]) and/or Russell Jr(very promising, Ruiz is shot but still a decent test/platform for him to look spectacular) then I might've kicked up a fuss over this, but if all they're showing is Alvarez-Cintron and, urgh, Broner then I really don't care if BoxNation aren't showing it.
Cintron - Past his best... Alvarez - Great prospect but as a world champion should NOT be fight Kermit bloody Cintron Broner - Never interested me really, possibly the next Jeff Lacy? (We'll see) Gary Russell Jr - Best thing since sliced bread IMO but he cant hold up a card. If this card isn't shown it wont bother me but if it's there i'll probably tune in for a watch.
I can't really slate BN for not picking this up. It's not a standout card by any means. I like Alvarez but am I not going to subscribe because they didn't show him beat up a warn out Cintron??
You're proved my point exactly. Alvarez is big in Mexico. As for Khan, fighting a guy on Kotelnik's level at 22 after 20 or so fights, how many British boxers do that? And then why does he still get stick after what he's achieved in the last 12 months? And what was wrong with Khan's progress at LW? As for Haye everyone wants to dismiss his past achievements but focus solely on the Wlad fight. Fury maybe not great but he's achieved far more than Price. So no, I'm not the one talking bollocks.
No, you really are. I just explained why people had problems with the fighters you mentioned and in most cases there was some justification.
instead of speaking on behalf of every boxing fan in the uk with access to boxnation, i would like to speak on behalf of me...........I WOULD LIKE TO WATCH ALVAREZ
I'm guessing BoxNation wouldn't be using the HBO coverage anyway. They may well show more fights from the undercard.
Looking at the Sky listings for Sunday morning: "Live - Cinncinatt Adrien Broner vs. Vinvente Martin Rodriguez for the WBO junior Lightweight title - Mexico City Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Kermit Cintron for the WBC Junior Middleweight title."
I was only speaking on behalf of myself in fairness. If the fights on, excellent, but its not the quality of fight that would ever cause me to say I wouldnt sign up.
Good old Frankie, been looking forward to this one for months. Monster card. Three cheers for BoxNation.:happy:happy:happy
