D question was about Louis starting his career @ 1948 , u thought he'd debut vs Charles in such a case ? I also don't think that he would have fought him prior 2 1950 but u still had some point in this so I assume that Charles & Cream (especially Charles as Cream was post prime by then while Cream was in fact @ d beginning of his slide by then) should b considered favorites 2 beat Joe at such a point in his career but Joe would have had his puncher's chance vs each .
Watching Louis' record again it really raised d doubts in me regarding him starting his pro career @ age 20 . What did he do till then ? had some erased professional losses ?
One thing I have to put you right on Marciano-Louis was not 'evenly' fought for any stretch?? That fight was a mugging from start to finish - one that Marciano didn't like giving - at no point did Louis have a pray - he couldn't cope at all with Marciano - that was not an even fight at all
From what I've seen of the fight,Louis had some early successes with his jab,but Marciano never really looked like he was going to lose this one.
Louis ****ed Marciano up with the jab, just admit it. Marciano's face was wicked swollen. Louis also briefly staggered Marciano with a left hook in round 1, but then Marciano responded with a crush roundhouse right hand that buckled Louis' knees at the end of round 1.
Ezzard Charles or Jersey Joe Walcott, probably Walcott. Walcott was great with the sneaky right hand.
Sorry Suzy no offence meant an but the is utter b****cks Louis did not win one round in that fight - that is rose tinted bull - unfortunately Louis could barely lay a decent glove on Marciano and Rock dished out punishment without really pushing himself - I could count the number of really good jabs Louis 'landed' in the whole eight rounds on the fingers of my hands to be honest...and as for hooks/uppercuts/attacking punches probably even less - Those that regurgitate the 'Louis still managed some success with old jab"/"Louis managed to win some of the early rounds" are very VERY blinkered or just repeating something they read somewhere once upon a time
Landing the (very) odd jab cannot be classed as 'having early successes with jab' - fact is Marciano dominated pretty much every round - continually making Louis miss out timing him and hurting him with painful shots - poor Louis just didn't have it in him to fight off someone like Marciano, he was just too far gone and spent most of the fight on the back foot
I've watched the fight millions of times and every time I do I'm looking for those decent rounds Louis had early on (that I'd heard journalist mention before) and they just weren't there Marciano just gave Louis a gradual working over while never once being caught with anything to really worry him - you're the one who's obviously never seen it (or at least watched it without wishing your heart out for Louis to land some of his decent old stuff) - I want Louis to cut loose with a combo at times aswell when I watch it sometimes but he just couldn't get Marciano even in the right position for any decent shots
Louis clearly won rounds 4 and 5, and round 3 was at least even, but I gave it to Louis. My card Round 1: Marciano Round 2: Marciano Round 3: Louis Round 4: Louis Round 5: Louis Round 6: Marciano Round 7: Marciano 4 rounds to 3 Marciano
