He wasn't shot in 01, but his decline started back then. Notice how he starts to sit on the robes... not so much as being pushed on the robes, but he would literally go to the ropes and stand there. Now he was still very good at this time, his reflexes were still great (although there may have been some change even with this at the time, but nothing too significant at all), but his stamina, IMO, was suffering. Maybe his legs started to get tired faster, but it was a tendency that started to grow and it was the only time he looked vulnerable. RJJ could fight well off the ropes in his prime, as in his prime he didn't go back on the ropes for a breather, he was pushed back, like against Sosa and Brannon, to name a couple.

99.9% shot. Not only have his reflexes eroded, he looked noticably very flabby in the Lebedev fight. That had never been the case before, not that I can remember. He'd always come in looking fit. A fat and shot Roy Jones is a disaster waiting to happen.

I have kids to attend to,so I'm afraid logging off is necessary sometimes.
Roy Jones has to be judged not against who he fought, but how outrageously talented he was, even to the most hardened scribes.Like I said,Roy's legacy is damaged by a lack of worthy challengers, along with the fact that he struggled to get motivated for run of the mill defences. He was also surly and never big box office, struggling to fill even MSG Theater. However,he had probably the most obvious talent and ability since Ray Leonard and due to the lack of box office challengers at the weight he was best suited to,he knew he had to go to heavy to leave a lasting mark on the world.Given that Ruiz held a genuine heavyweight belt (despite being far from great) and was a genuine HW contender, to have held the MW belt and moved to heavy was a genuine landmark.Unfortunatly,it's been downhill from there, and everyone knows that even when he fought Calzaghe, that Roy wasn't 50% of the guy who never had to raise his left, and could punch with extreme prejudice with his hands held loosely at his waist.Try standing at a heavy bag and doing this, more often than not you'll hurt your hands. As I said,if you're going to research RJJ,look a bit deeper, statistics don't always tell the full story.

Remember what you have all written and remember. If Jones was so shot, how come he beat Tarver at first ask?
Went the distance with Tarver in the 3rd fight when Tarver was the man.
Jones scored 3 victories between Tarver 3 and losing to Calzaghe, beating an undefeated SMW contender and Trinidad.

So answer if Trinidad was a good win for Hopkins and Wright, so why not Jones?

If Jones was able to dominate Sheika so easily, why did Sheika give Diaconu such a tough fight. It looks good on Jones doesnt it?

Jones put Hopkins down with a legal punch that Hopkins couldnt continue with when recieving. If Hopkins hadnt of convinced the ref it was behind the head, that would have been a KO win for Jones. Would you have called Hopkins shot then? Would it have been a good win for Jones?

Jones was ahead on one card against Lebedev going into the last round and Lebedev fought undefeated CW champ Huck to a SD. Does this look bad on Jones?

Lebedev beat Toney for every minute of every round but Jones fought competitively however you scored the fight. Does this look bad on Jones?

Now ive not called Jones prime but asked with this run how shot do you really think he is?
Could it be that Jones chin let him down as it nearly did against Del Valle? Who isnt recognised as the biggset puncher.

Now very few have answered the questions and have just tried to say Jones is shot rather than answer, so for the fools that didnt pay attention at first ask, try again :good

its possible that roy jones is not as shot as many fanboys would have you believe and here is why

its hard to believe that people were ranking jones p4p number 1 during that abysmal run of opponents. to add to the laughter factor roy jones was avoiding the man at 175 the whole time in DM.

jones moved up to heavy and beat hand picked ruiz, a great achievement but i always fancied jones to win that fight because of the speed factor and that ruiz wouldn't be able to land on jones.

now look back at that horrific list of roy jones opponents above that spanned 5 years and then look at the fighters jones faced after tarver, sandwiched before and after jones' loss to calzaghe.

why did jones lose to tarver and johnson?
    This content is protected

is it because as with every fighter, jones reflexes had slowed down a little with age and his defeciency in technical boxing skills led to roy jones' horrific glass jaw continually being exposed?

after this fight, jones came back and laid a sustained beatdown on lacy, showing a phenominal skill set. if this fight was during the horrific run of opponents jones had during his supposed p4p number 1 run at 175, it would have been talked about non stop by the jones fanboys as one of thee great performances and held alongside other performances such as vinny pazienza and dave telesco :deal

next came a victory over sheika, a sheika who had previously beaten glen johnson, again another performance to rank alongside his horrific 6 year run as p4p number 1 run.

next came the green and ledbedev defeats, can these fights be put down to a further slowing down in roys reflexes, further exposing roys pathetic jaw against big hitting fighters?

to put an exact time limit on jones' decline is much harder than most fanboys seem to think and this is purely because of the sub-standard run of opponents roy was allowed to fight on HBO for so long.

:clap::clap: Truly outstanding post that shows someone who is able to read the thread start page and understands what is written :happy.
Thank goodness for a sensible poster who knows their boxing :good.

Sure Jones may have slipped but probably not as much as his fanboys would like to admit.

Nobody felt Jones was shot when he took one on the chin by Del Valle. If this happend now, people would say its because Jones is shot, but look here. His legs went all over the place and he had to hold to survive against Del Valle. Del Valle wasnt the biggest puncher.

Now do you think Jones was shot here?

One of two things will happen on this thread now.
One is that Jones fanboys will say the decline was starting here because Jones looked so good beating LW Pazienza, the other is that the fanboys will pretend this thread never existed, leave it without posting again and beg the mods for it to be deleted.

Jones has been badly shot since the tarver fight, completley finished and a shell just like Joe Calzaghe described him

Joe was on point with that !
