Mike Tyson('88) vs Lennox Lewis('95)

Which fighters Lewis' size and ability was Tyson eating for breakfast? None really. So with the lack of evidence for either fighter it is pure speculation.

Also,t hat gif is a poor example, Lewis wouldn't go down from a cuffing shot near the temple that hit his gloves first.

 

Lewis already KO'd Mike and Mike was still in his early 30's. Tyson was not unbeatable, he was a tremendous puncher with very fast reflexes and speed but he was very easy to hit. Tyson had problems with tall fighters and Lewis was the best of the tall HV's.

The thing is, if we were lucky enough to of seen such a fight a fight, not the 8 round thrashing that we did see, it would of been a genuine pick-em fight. 50-50. Tyson was a beast in '88 though. But, Lennox was a great fighter all the way through...

 

TYSON will never beat a fighter like LEWIS who has experience and knows how to use his size advantage and a great jab...someone who won't fold when the fight gets rough...sorry fans but that's the truth.

Lewis KO's Tyson....

 

Lewis leans on Tyson and grabs him for 2-3 rounds and then knocks him out. It doesn't matter if this is 1988 or 2002 Tyson.

Mike simply lacked the ring IQ to handle a guy like Lewis. Same with Ali where I see Ali outclassing and outsmarting Tyson and embarrassing him.

Iron Mike was talented and all but he simply wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed if you catch my drift.

 

Mike Tyson is such an interesting character. He is considered peak when he was knocking out bums, and imidiately past his peak or even shot the second he faced someone that wasn't terrified of him (Buster Duglas). I think Iron Mike is quite possibly the biggest hypejob america ever produced, and could go toe to toe with George Bush's election and later re-election in the number of people fooled.

However, I wish to emphisize that I think he was a great boxer with sound technical skills, and he knocked out overmatched, terrified opponents in a spectacular maner. Even so, I find it hard to forget that Don King was responsible for the selection of opponents and that the greatest achievemnt that Mike has under his belt (being the youngest unified hw champ in history) is largely due to King's control of the major belts and ability to shuffle ratings as he saw fit. He had armazing genes, hall of fame trainer that had a tailor-made style suiting Mike Tyson perfectly, the best promoter of the time and all the pharma/advancements that money could buy, but he lacked character and determination. Lennox Lewis showed both throughout his career, and he achieved his status without all the odds stacked in his favor.

 

Tyson wasn't easy to hit, his defence was great. Unfortunately, his defence, and his style, both heavily depended on his conditioning, and Tyson was unable to comit to training.

 

I think Lewis on his best night is a nightmare for Tyson at any stage of his career,but he wouldn't be able to relax for a millisecond.Half a lapse and prime Mike cleans up.
