Holmes: 1,2,3,4,5,7,9,14 Spinks: 6,8,10,11,12,13,15 I don't remember the exact details of the fight because this scorecard is one I wrote/typed down over two years ago. And yes,Spinks is underrated.Very strong argument to be considered the greatest fighter of that entire decade.
I have not watched in a while but i remember thinking it was closer than the first fight but Spinks still won it. Even in the 14th when Spinks was badly hurt, he out punched Holmes in that round. I loved those 15rd. fights, the last 3 rounds make such a big difference and the conditioning required prior to the fight anticipating 15 rds of battle. I think 15 rds would eliminate many of the overweight heavyweights in the last 2 decades when the 12 was mandated.
At heavyweight or pound for pound? I'm not sure that he takes the top spot at either frankly, albeit he is very good. His participation at HW was too brief and while his domination at LH was excellent, I think Ray Leonard was the best p4p in the 80's.
I think he's definitely up there.Hagler's name is usually thrown up as a consideration for being the fighter of the decade, and if he has an argument then so does Spinks, who I think is around the same level on an ATG basis.
Spinks owns two legitimate wins over Larry Holmes in addition to beating absolute quality like Qawi, Mustafa, Lopez, and Johnson at Light Heavyweight. He's definitely up there.
Cool man. Just so you know though, if you give Holmes more than 7 rounds then you're on my ignore list with whipdatass and MichiganWarrior. Sleep well, chap. :hi:
