on the scene. cool fight i think. but, cotto has to move up to 160 to get it. arum is a pisser :smoke
Chavez may be too big, he comes to the ring at about 180. Cotto isn't that big of a JMW. Not beyond Miguel due to his advantage in skills, but Arum would be cashing out on one of his stars in order to hype another, and I'm sure he realises that Chavez has less miles on the clock than Cotto.
I think, in the past, Arum wanted Pacquiao-Cotto II. But that probably is no longer the case, or Arum may feel he doesn't need Cotto to help Pacquiao's PPV sales. I think Arum is correct if that is his assessment. Pac probably has four more fights left, maximum. With a JMM IV fight in the possible mix, Cotto is simply not needed for Pacquiao. Thus, you have to figure out how to make attractive matches for Cotto. This seems like that kind of situation.
Zero interest in this fight year ago when it was being talked about and I have maybe 1% interest in it now. Just another example of Arum monopolizing his fighters at the expense of far better and more appropriate fights that ought to be getting made.
If Cotto wins next week, I don't think this is going to cut it to keep him with Top Rank. My guess is unless he gets the Pacquiao rematch he walks.
fug pacquiao. i stay away from that monster. it will have to be at 150 anyway. pac wont fight above that
Likely what Arum is thinking. Why have two assets fight each other and diminish one of them when you can have two popular assets instead? Makes sense.
Bob and his match makers know something we don't. Cotto's got to be near shot, and they want to cash him out.
That's not the logic at all. There's a decent chance Cotto might be done with Top Rank and Arum needs to offer him something to stay. The Pacquiao fight has no heat on it, so Chavez is the only one left around that weight. Of course, this also serves an extra purpose for Top Rank, as they might get to make a non-Alvarez fight that looks somewhat credible for Chavez and potentially sacrifice their aging, too light-for-154 star to their young huge middleweight.
Not really. No one but Martinez is insisting that fight needs to happens. If i was managing Jr, I'd do the same. Everyone and their momma knows Jr isn't ready for Martinez. He's just a contender with not even any wins over other top contenders, other then Zbik. Besides, Cotto has a fight soon. You really think Arum is trying to make that already? hell no, it's just talk.
