Lee hints at Macklin/Martinez wants the winner but doesnt think he he will get Chavez

Still waiting for Lee to deliver the performance in the ring but cometh the hour, cometh the man.

Martinez/Macklin is pretty much set.

Mack and Lee are both lambs to the slaughter.

 

Lee-Macklin after Sergio outboxes the **** out of Mack? Can't do Lee-Martinez right away, not financially profitable.

For all I care Lee-Mack should be THE Paddy's day fight to make. Lee-McEwen is a good shout too.

 

:huh Why would Martinez-Lee not be financially profitable after Martinez-Macklin? Lee will have had far more exposure than Macklin and Martinez's two opponents from this year. I could see HBO trying to force a unification fight if Geale wants it or Pirog has done something to build his name in the US six months from now, but I don't think profitability would preclude Martinez-Lee from happening.

 

Lee has improved some but he's still going to get beaten down by Martinez if they fought anytime soon. Lee-Chavez would actually be a very good fight, I'm not sure who wins that one but it would be all action. Wouldn't mind seeing Lee in with Chavez, Lemieux, Guerrero or a handful of guys at/near that level.

 

I haven't seen Lee in a while, but the way he crumpled against Vera in his first fight makes me wonder. I just looked at boxrec and it looks like they have been busy padding the record and rebuilding his confidence since then. Props to him for avenging his loss, but what happens when he gets in with heavy hitters?

No way. No way does HBO buy in on a guy who has McEwen & Vera as high profile (!!) names on his record. Barker was the EBU (or was ir BBC?) champ so it was marketable to an extent. Lee isn't, unless he beats someone who's currently worthy of fighting Sergio, and Macklin qualifies after giving Sturm a real tough fight.

I'm sure HBO sees Pirog vs Gaele as marketable. On the other hand, when considering a P4P guy like Sergio, Lee isn't a title holder, Lee isn't widely considered mid to high top 10 MW, Quillin beat McEwen easier than did Lee............. no, it's not profitable at the moment. Feel free to argue otherwise.

 

Who the hell are Barker, Dzinziruk, and Macklin from the average HBO fan's perspective? Lee might not be much, but people have actually seen him fight, most recently of course in support of Martinez. I just don't think Barker's EBU belt, Dzinziruk's 154 pound belt, or Macklin's loss to Sturm are likely to be as relevant to any promotion or the profitability of a fight as a greater number of US viewers actually having seen Lee. Qualifications are one thing, and Lee probably doesn't have them compared to those guys. Their qualifications however played very little role in the money generated by those fights.

Now HBO could potentially say that Lee isn't good enough to fight Martinez (though it's not really a measure of the profitability of a fight; HBO refused to air Chavez for similar reasons until this year even though he was already arguably the biggest draw at middleweight). But in terms of exposure and ability to attract a crowd, Lee compares favorably to Martinez's next likely opponent and his previous two as well.

 

If Lee KO'ed Vera, I'd understand how sellable he is to the US public. Thing with Dzin & Barker, they had credentials from across the pond. Macklin gave the Euro MW king his toughest fight in years, he can sell now. Lee can't be sold to the US public as a top dog.

Lee's defensive approach (!!) is a delight for Martinez. Stay busy fight? Sure. WCB on HBO? I don't think so.

Lee-Mack @ MSG on Paddy's day is an awesome fight. Martinez-Lee is a mismatch.

Good point. Vera beat him up and took his OH. Technically Lee avenged the loss by out boxing him for 10 rounds but it wasn't very compelling story line wise.

 

I was under the impression he wasn't that big in Mexico because of his style. I'd be surprised if Sturm wasn't a bigger draw in Germany than Chavez is in Mexico though now that I think about it. At least revenue wise.
