Not a lot I don't think. Better fundamentals, much more intelligent at applying pressure, and, of course, holds far greater physical advantages over opponents than Angulo does.

Rios is like an Angulo version 1.25.

Moving around too much (circling too wide at times) meant that Acosta got tired and it was only a matter of time. Have to give credit to the body punching of Rios as well. Rios really did make Acosta move a lot. Relentless. I would take Rios in a rematch.

Was a great fight and I was really rooting for Acosta. He was doing quite well for the first 4 rounds as well. I believe he won all 4 of them (lol at Elie Seckbachs scorecard)

Was really gutted at the end though. I love Acosta's style and he is a really good fighter. Made me respect Rios and what he can do, it really was his coming out party for me.

Rios is faster than he's given credit for. Much quicker than someone like Angulo, he makes Margarito look like Carlos Maussa.

Depends how much punishment he takes in the pac fight but i really dont see Rios as the man to stop dinamita. His powers of recovery are incredible. Also i dont think Diaz gave him fits, its a bit like in Mitchell/Murray were kev was losing rounds but you could see he was winning the fight. Marquez was losing rounds and taking damage but he was fighting Diazs fight and holding his own which took diazs heart.

Diaz was all over JMM, especially in the 2nd round where he backed him up and stunned him. Fits? I dunno about that, but he was getting the better of it, and was still well in it until he got cut and fell to bits. Which someone like JMM will take advantage of to devastating effect.

Urged on by Jpab, and with the second fight now confirmed for Madison Square Garden on December 3rd, it is time we all appreciated the first battle between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito

Watched it yesterday (in HD.. **** Primetime and BoxNation)

    Brilliant, brilliant fight.

  9. I think Diaz gave Marquez more trouble than Katsidis, though from about the 4th or 5th round it was clear Marquez was going to win the fight.

Katsidis was largely dominated apart from the KD, let's be honest.

Come on lads, who takes the second fight? Does Margo continue to walk Cotto down? Or was the first fight decided on illigal hand wraps, and Cotto will gain his revenge?

Will the second fight be as thrilling?

Also, how does this battle compare to the previous wars between Mexico-PR?

Copy and paste then Slip ;)

Ok, I don't mean to step all over LP's thread, so concentrate on the last question. How does the first battle compare with other Mexican-Puerto Rican great fights?

I have a bad feeling about this fight, especially after watching Cotto and his Mother break their hearts and see Margarito's dodgy eye on 24/7.

I hope Cotto wins a great fight and comes out and says Marg's punches were the same and they have some sort of respect for each other but I just cant see that happening ...

I worry Cotto could leave the ring a broken man if he loses again or Margarito could get permanent eye damage if Miguel has a successful night

As much as I loved that first fight, I'm getting bad vibes about this one .. :-(

I 100% agree with this! I would love nothing more than for Cotto to say Margo bangs just as hard 2nd time around (no homo). But i dont think it'll be the case.

    The mexican still wins tho

In terms of how good the fight was it's right up there. I think Sanchez vs. Gomez, Gomez vs. Pintor, Gomez vs Zarate and De la Hoya vs. Trinidad (if you count Oscar as Mexican) were more significant.

I'd put it on the level of Chavez/Camacho.

    My favourite is Pintor/Gomez.
