It is always interesting to me hearing fighters talk about retirement, in Manny case, im pretty sure it's already been said hes done by 2013. I think it will come earlier IMO.

last time I saw manny extremely sharp (i saw him in his training camps for clottely, margarito, mosley, JMM) was for Cotto, he didnt look the same for Mosley and JMM. By those performances as well you can tell he might be already past his peak. no brainer there right?

A lot of people would be very happy if he retired, I hope he has a few more fights and retires on a good win.

the end is near now that he has been exposed by jmm and so is his hype. he wont be around much longer maybe a few more that is it. if the floyd fight ever happens, that will be the end of his career.

And he is right. He has nothing left to prove in the sport.

I don't think he'll wait 'till 2013 either, to be honest. He's lost a little of his fire, his passion for it if you ask me. You can see it in his performances after Cotto. Maybe 2 fights next year and that could be that. Hopefully one of 'em is Mayweather.

This just seems like the common ploy used by fighters that are likely to go into negotiation with a rival in the near future. While it may hold some truth to the matter, I think it is highly likely that talks of retirement (prematurely) are merely being used as leverage (either real, or more subtly) in negotiations. Haye did the same thing against Wlad, and no doubt uses his 'bringing him out of his retirement' as reason to negotiate a higher cut against Vitali. If an opponent ultimately wants to make a fight to improve their reputation, then the threat of missing out on that win is small but appreciable lever in negotiations.

For me the braking point was the Mosley fight because it was the first time I was able to see his punches. And my eyes ain't getting better with time :)

When Pacquiao retires, and when Mayweather retire, there may be some decent fighters, but the major earners will be gone. Cotto will be retired soon enough. Berto doesn't have much fanfare. Ortiz had a chance and didn't take advantage. Maidana has some followers, but not true earning power. Martinez is getting up in age. Guerrero and Maidana are decent, but don't seem to have enough "character" to either get people to love them like PacMan or hate them like Floyd. Broner is already hated by some but seems to try to make himself as a clone to Floyd. Its going to be awhile before we see another Oscar, Tito, Vargas, Mosley, Pac, Mayweather, Cotto.....
