DM was the man outside of Jones and unified before him. DM beeing around means Jones was not the best in the division. And while I think Jones beats him, DM´s jab, power and durability makes it the toughest matchup between Grffith and Tarver.

Anyway, both have good arguments, I always likes Pea more though.

IMO there is quite a bit between them overall, in the favour of Pea. Something like 15-20 spaces. It´s close for the 90s though.

Jones Jr (second overall) over Whitaker (fifth overall) for me. But all-time Whitaker tops RJJ.

Remember Pernell dished up some rubbish performances against the likes of Gary Jacobs and Wilfredo Rivera (he didn't look all that great in the first McGirt fight either) not to mention his latter decade losses to De La Hoya and Trinidad.

Jones by comparison basically cleaned house whenever he fought. He didn't just win either he generally dominated. His two lesser 90's efforts were the Griffin fight and probably the first Hopkins bout and he was still on his way to a KO in the former and won clearly 9-3 against a fellow ATG in the latter.

Jones takes this easily and for mine he looks loads better than Whitaker at their respective bests as well (although I have to admit Pernell doesn't entertain me in any way, shape or form despite his obvious genius so I'm probably predjudiced to begin with).

how has holyfield not been mentioned yet? the fighter of the decade award was originally supposed to go to holyfield because 3 members of the bwaa (i believe one was ron borges) were acting on their own to give the award to him. other members of the bwaa protested and they had a revote with more members and jones won. holyfield, jones and whitaker were all deserving but i think jones won because he didn't have losses at the end of the decade like evander and pea.

holyfield deserves to be in the conversation but the highest i could possibly put him is 3. he had losses to lewis, bowe and moorer in the decade (no shame against those fighters) but jones and whitaker had spectacular dominance, especially the former

true but he by far had the biggest fights of the decade. the 90s were probably the second greatest heavyweight decade ever and evander was arguably the best of the bunch. i remember when first hearing about the award, i thought evander would win it. of course my opinion is incredibly biased but i feel jones was the clearly the best fighter overall and was happy he got the award.

Whitaker was much braver in terms of who he fought .
Jones was braver in terms of how he fought .
But neither was dominant in terms of d combination of both .

Resume wise it's close, I think Hopkins/Toney are better than anyone on Whitaker's ledger though, Chavez included. But the manner of victory was emphatic for Jones, winning every round against many peoples P4P no1 and beating a future P4P no1 easily with 1 hand. Destroying a LHW champ of 10 years in 4 rounds. Knocking out ranked contenders in 1-2 rounds that had never been stopped facing the likes of Benn/Toney/Eubank/Julian Jackson.

PowerPuncher gets hard for RJJ. He thinks he would clown Michael Spinks like he did Clinton Woods.
