    Fantastic post :happy.
Calzaghe has shown that he is leagues ahead of the current crop and that the division was alot tougher years previously.
Heres an old out of date post from over a year ago, but you will get the idea

    1. Calzaghe undefeated world champ
    2. Kessler undefeated world champ (undefeated and not suffering double vision)
    3. Lacy undefeated world champ (undefeated, and tell me an active American SMW with a better resume)
    4. Beyer (3 time WBC champ)
    5. Mundine (2 time WBA champ)
    6. Danny Green now a world rated CW
    7. Siaca (former world champ)
    8. Grant (former WBO MW champ)
    9. Reid (former world champ, and fighter that looked unlucky against Ottke)
    10. Andrade (undefeated at this time and looked unlucky not to KO Bute years later)

I think that clearly proves a point when now in the top 10, you have Andrade still who has been beaten 3 times now, Magee who was put down 3 times and beaten by 2005 #9 Reid, Steiglitz who lost to Andrade, Arthur with limited SMW resume of Miranda and Taylor coming off a KO , Bika who lost to Soliman, Froch who was beaten by #2 of 2005, Dirrell who lost to Froch. Kessler of now who Ward beat and who beat Froch wasnt even well and suffering double vision, and Bute nearly KOd by already beaten 2005 #10.

You really did leave yourself open to that one, but please, you have convinced yourself so carry on in deluded form :patsch, but my facts are irrefutable :deal

Young Calzaggerz couldn't thrash Robin "Brookside" Reid, so how a shot version of the cherrypicking leek-muncher could thrash anyone is beyond me...

Froch has to keep a solid workrate and go for a ko, probably a come from behind tko like he did to american jermain taylor. Ward is not that **** though he schooled kessler worse than calzaghe did and also kessler took froch into deep waters

What facts? Your brain works with resumes, that's all you care about, you don't consider H2H comparisons one bit. Laughable, really.

Let's see what it looks like if you only consider H2H, the polar opposite of your thought process.

    1. Calzaghe vs 2011 Ward: close, messy tactical fight, very hard to call
    2. Kessler vs 2011 Bute: close fight also, likely to see Kessler coming in and Bute counter-punching
    3. Lacy vs 2011 Froch: Froch uses range to keep Lacy at bay and lets his hands go when Lacy comes in close wreckless, Froch UD or TKO
    4. Beyer vs 2011 Kessler: no change. Kessler beats Beyer every day of the week and twice on Sunday
    5. Mundine vs 2011 Stieglitz: bit of a war, I'd favor '05 Mundine 60-40 though
    6. Danny Green vs 2011 Johnson: if not in Australia, Johnson UD by 3-4 rounds, Green had/has a very leaky defense
    7. Siaca vs 2011 Oosthuizen: Siaca had limited power, Oosthuizen batters him all night, Tommy wide UD or late stoppage
    8. Grant vs 2011 Bika: hahaha. Could prolly put together a nice Bika highlight reel after that one, Grant runs scared all night
    9. Reid vs 2010 Dirrell: '05 Reid gets outworked, tires in the late rounds, ultimately gets outlanded 2 to 1, Dirrell UD
    10. Andrade vs 2011 Abraham: one hell of a fight, both very tough / good chins, advantage Abraham on punch power, Abraham KO/TKO

...now go and refute that, princess.

Also like the Bute note on '05 Andrade, just goes to show how selective you are not mentioning that '09 Bute was able to KTFO (in Chincheckers jargon) Iron Chinned Andrade and that prime '05-07 Kessler could not.

Resumes alone are not indications of how good a fighter was/is. If you don't consider H2H style matchups and maintain tunnel vision on the man who beat the man who beat the man who once had a paper title, your credibility goes out the window. But you already know that. I'm just throwing it out there for the rest of ESB to consider.

Ward beat unwell Kessler worse than Calzaghe, but Calzaghe beat Bika clearer than Ward

Calzaghe's insane workrate and bizarre/unorthodox style would best Ward in a very close fight, but Ward is taking Carl to school. I'm a Froch fan, but the Froch-huggers are in for a very painful wake-up call come fight night. It's not about Oakland, or headbutts or dirty tactics. It's about being a superior boxer. Ward is the superior boxer.

...and I'm the nuthugger here?!? See I can admit Bute would have trouble against a mover with better handspeed who forces him to come forward, but you......... can't, just can't see Calzaghe losing. It's not conceptually possible in your head in light of his oh-so-perfect resume. Sorry dude, you're the nuthugger here.

Like I said it's a close fight, there's no way you can conclude using cold hard facts that Calzaghe had/has "too much of everything" for a versatile world class fighter like Ward.

...but get outpointed by the Bute that KTFO Andrade?! I'll use the word you always use to qualify Kessler of recent years, "unwell". Bute had not fully recovered from food poisoning, Larouche wanted to call the fight off, Bute said "I'll fight him and outbox him over 12 rounds" so that must be taken into consideration. Not like we have either fighter's medical file to look at, we just don't.

We'll agree to disagree on this one. Froch turned the tide around the mid rounds against Taylor and finished in class. Why are you wording the Dirrell win "fought Dirrell to a SD" when you usually flame people for seeing the fight as a close call, or slightly in Dirrell's favor?!? Lacy outworking Froch is a dream of yours to be honest, like I argued Lacy would get frustrated by Froch's jab and would most likely come in wreckless in which case Froch takes a couple flush but outlands the **** out of him.

Lacy was only favourite vs Calzaghe in the eyes of American media, and it doesn't matter anyway.

Are you seriously basing this "no way" on a Lucas/Beyer vs 2011 Johnson comparison?

The gulf in toughness and ring IQ is humongous. Invalid argument.

Siaca going the distance with Mitchell just highlights a decent stamina & chin.

Pryor Jr is very awkward on defense, Siaca wasn't enough of a pure boxer and would have looked just as bad.

Tough fight, yes, but I give the edge to Tommy on intangibles. He did look better the other night than he did in recent fights of his, apparently. I'll see if that fight (vs Sierra) was finally uploaded on the Tube.

Grant would run scared because Bika would make him extremely uncomfortable on the inside. Grant was an accurate boxer, however I think Bika would get close to him starting halfway through the fight and put a beating on.

    Grant is NOTHING like Soliman.

Andrade doesn't have Froch's long jab & combos, Dirrell's handspeed & moving ability or Ward's versatility, handspeed & accuracy.

Take those skills away from Abraham's opponent, and King Arthur is in his comfort zone.

War, but edge in raw power goes to AA.

Andrade was softened up by Kessler? I completely disagree, looking at his fights vs Mack and Tsypko, not even withstanding Bute-Andrade I.

I however agree that Bute could have been waved off to a TKO in R12 depending on the ref.

I don't see a trail of aggressive, derogatory posts directed towards me. You however routinely get shat on for Boxrecing and not injecting enough styles talk into your arguments. The fact that I can be a fan of a former undisputed champ like Calzaghe but admit that an extremely talented fighter like Ward would give him a tough fight makes me less biased and more credible than you who really comes out as 'the' nuthugger here.

Weighing accomplishments as much as attributes/skills is what it's all about. I never said we should compare fighters strictly on a H2H basis, again I never said that. Resume triangles are, most of the time, not a good basis for comparison either.

Many ESB-members are dead sure about the outcome of fantasy match ups, which often are bogus. Both Calzaghe and Ward are top notch fighters, and Calzaghe struggled with several of his opponents. Always won, but rarely looked unbeatable.

I personally believe Calzaghes strong points are very well suited to deal with Ward, but no way is it a given victory.
