an even fight. Nigel had no quit in him and could bang prety hard. Its safe to say carter had better competition but IMO nigel could live within Carters era as well as rubin did. I saw nigel lose to sugar boy malinga live, I was there that night. nigel became a bit predictable if he was not stired into a full out war, trouble is I think carter would give him the "tear up" nigel craved and thats why I wont count benn out in this match up. When it came to blood and guts benn has a chance with anyone.

Burt this is a good shoot out, I'm not sure who wins, I think Carter is a bit underrated, Benn a bit quicker of hand and foot, Carter maybe technically better. Both big punchers, no doubt

Benn fought like Dempsey, and he proved he could beat world class fighters. Do you like him Burt?

He reminded me of a young Rocky Graziano, not in style, but in the excitement and sheer tension they brought into a fight. Or what I perceive a young Stanley Ketchel's vicious barrages, looked like...

I like Carter. He beat Emile Griffith, and Jimmy Ellis.

    Carter has a better chin.

    Benn had better management.

The deciding factor, for me, is size. Carter was a lmw and Benn was a smw so probably a lhw from that era.

Carter hurts benn early but down the stretch benns heart and staying power give him a victory over the hurricane.

P4p not many will stop rubin but here he's gonna be outgunned over 8 rounds.

Benn was a small supermiddle and lost a good amount of power there. It was probably the Eubank rivalry that saw him move up as much as anything.

What a great match up. Nigel's chin lets him down. Carter mid rds ko but Ben has some good rds.

The eubank rematch and the fight with gerald is pretty much the best benn there was imo.

He was good at mw but not as good.

Plus rubin would be considered a small smw today, what he did weigh usually? 150 pounds? Some lww's weigh that much on fight night.

Benn was going to fight at LMW himself in his early career

Were talking prime for prime here right?

Carter in his prime was about 152 pounds

Benn's prime in my opinion was as a smw from the galvano fight till the gman fight. He weighed about 172 pounds.

My point is if i'm doing a prime for prime match up I think benn is too big. However i'm taking away from what the thread's about.

For the sake of argument i'll use the younger raw mw version of benn (barkley fight) against the experienced granite chinned version of carter (giardello fight)

Ok this is a tough match up, can any mw crack carter's chin? I'm not so sure but benn has the accumulative power to reopen the old cut hurricane suffered. However i'm certain rubin catches benn early. Would benn survive? I'll say atleast 3 knockdowns. I favour benn down the distance but only by a **** hair if we're talking mw versions of each.

We're talking about both men at Middleweight, obviously. That would be the only place they could fight.
